The Milky Way rises over Saddlerock Lake, in the Eastern Sierra Nevada.

I took this shot at Saddlerock Lake just below Bishop Pass in the Eastern Sierras. My hopes had been dashed for grabbing a reflection of the Milky Way on the lake at around sunset when the wind started picking up and continued throughout the evening. Despite the harsh winds I managed to find a spot next to this semi-petrified tree stump that would be relatively unaffected by the wind and still include the lake.

Thanks for taking the time to take a look at my photos, and as always, your views, comments, faves, and support are greatly appreciated!!

Have a great weekend my friends!! :)

If you have any questions about this photo or about photography in general, I will do my best to help, just post a comment or send me a Flickr mail and I will respond as quickly as possible.

. . . and rock gawking in the eastern Sierra Nevada. The mix of sun and clouds made for some nice lighting, until the clouds won the day, and the rains came.

I've hiked over to Humphreys Basin a few times, and while the scenery on the west side is outstanding for other reasons, the views of Mount Humphreys are much better on the easily accessible east side.

The Eastern Sierras from a place I hadn't been to before. Many thanks to my friend Jean Day who showed me this location.

I once had a water bottle the color of these lakes. Unfortunately, it floated away one day. It can be replaced. This cannot.

I’m often undecided on whether a scene will look better with direct light, or later with supposedly better atmospheric color. This particular scene loses sun 2 hours before sunset this time of year, so I snapped this just before the sun dipped below a nearby ridge. I wish it was closer to golden hour, but I’m happy with the definition the direct light puts on the various contours of the landscape. I wasn’t confident in the sunset colors happening, which turned out to be a good hunch. I guess I’ll go back and try some other time. . .
