Last day of the holidays and I have 1000 things to do, but insted I took of to the local beach with the rest of the population in Denmark. The beach was crowded and I could'nt find a parking space and nobody seemed to care that I needed some alone time. But I did manage to get some nice shooths.

Founded in 1491 The Sacro Monte (Holy Mountain) of Varallo was built on a rock outcrop on the slopes of the mountains called Tre Croci (Three Crosses).

It consist of a Basilica and 50 chapels which are either isolated or part of a larger monumental complex.

The chapels contains over 800 statues lifelike in wood or terracotta which describe the story of the life of Christ.

I was always looking for an opportunity of minimalist landscape with some sort of pales in water. But, I also wanted to add some complexity to the image. Maybe this desire is to satisfy my anxiety about something so unrealistically simple, if you know what I mean. Well, here was my chance. Complex mountains and clouds contrasting with simple water reflexion with some old simple remnants of a dock. Peace opposing turbulance, ying and yang, true perfection.

Isn't beauty an interplay of simple and complex by practical forces of nature?

A story behind this photo. This view was at the end of Caines Head Trail, and I shot it after midnight. This trail is very unusual as it mostly goes through the beach of Resurrection Bay. But, one side is in most places a vertical wall, sometimes 40 feet tall or more. The beach gets flooded by water during high tide, so it's only possible to pass during low tide. You have a few hour window twice a day to pass, so you have to time this right or you get drown. Another interesting thing was crossing a river since the bridge got wiped out a couple years ago during one of big floods. I went to the mouth of the river where it meets the sea as water had the lowest levels there, but it was still waist deep in some places.

As I started hike late in the evening, I made it to the empty camp ground only after midnight. The last mile, I had to go over a forrested hill as the tide was already too high to pass on the beach. It was an interesting experience walking alone through a murky forest in the middle of the night. I was mostly concerned about bears, so I made a lot of noise, singing and tightly clutching compressed air horn, just in case I meet one of these big creatures. When I got to the camp ground, it started to rain and the only good place to setup tent was at the edge of the forest. Then I took a short stroll on the beach and saw this. This was my big reward for the day, I kept shoothing from different positions for almost an hour.

Next day, I headed back in the morning as I had a plane to catch back home and didn't want to risk missing my only window for low tide until evening. On the way, I encountered a bald eagle circling over my head with some rodent it its claws. It was making a lot of noise and later I saw that it landed on top of a tree where it had a nest.

In retrospect, this was the coolest trail I've done.

Woods at the entrance to the Paths of the Dead. The Dimholt was located in Dunharrow at the base of the Dwimorberg, the Haunted Mountain. A path bordered with standing stones led from the Firienfeld into the Dimholt. The trees were dark and included firs. There was an opening at the root of the Dwimorberg marked by a single standing stone. In the glen beyond was a sheer wall of rock in which was the Dark Door leading into the Paths of the Dead.

So took a break from shoothing my sisters marina..and wondered into the woods...
