Peoples State Forest is a Connecticut state forest occupying 3,059 acres along the West Branch Farmington River opposite American Legion State Forest in the town of Barkhamsted. It is managed for forest products, wildlife habitat, and recreational uses that include hiking, hunting, fishing, and snowmobiling.
The forest was dedicated in October 1924 with a riverside pageant attended by Governor Templeton and another 3,000 persons. The Civilian Conservation Corps made recreational improvements in the 1930s through the laying out of roads and trails and construction of a nature museum with an interior made of chestnut from trees killed by blight.
Nature museum
The park features the Peoples State Forest Nature Museum, a stone-faced building built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1935 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The museum's focus on native flora and fauna includes animal mounts and skulls, minerals and insect specimens along with displays concerning area pioneers, Native Americans, logging, quarrying, and the Civilian Conservation Corps. The museum was open from 1935 to 1942. It reopened in 1992 under the name the Stone Museum. The name was changed back to the Peoples State Forest Nature Museum in 2007.
Trails
The forest has about ten miles (16 km) of trails in the blue-blazed Peoples State Forest Trails system.
Now blooming along the trails are wild orchids, also known as Lady Slippers. Pink lady's slipper is a large, showy wildflower belonging to the orchid family. It has two opposite basal leaves with conspicuous parallel veins and a large flower at the end of an erect stalk. The flower is magenta to whitish-pink; sometimes the whitish pink flowers will have darker pink venation. Rarely the flower may be all white. This plant grows 6 to 15 inches tall and flowers generally between May and July.
The species name acaule is Latin, meaning, "stem less", referring to the plant’s leafless flowering stem. Another common name for this plant is moccasin flower.

... of the floral variety. Shooting stars are my favorite wildflowers. They are essentially primroses with reflexed petals. They were previously placed in their own genus (Dodecatheon) based on this remarkable floral trait, but have recently been put back into the primrose group (Primula).
The petal positioning of shooting stars would seem to hinder pollinators from landing on the flower. However they rely on a "buzz" pollination strategy, where vibration of the pollinator's (usually bumble bees) flight muscles causes tightly held pollen to fall off the anthers and land on the legs and body of the pollinator or directly on to the stigma of the same flower. Buzz pollination occurs in other species with similar flower morphology, such as some plants in the tomato family.

66028 leads the late running 1103 Exeter Riverside to St Blazey empty clays.
My original plan was to shoot this working from the other side of the tracks and incorporate the progress of the avalanche shelter but due to the train running 90 late the sun had crossed the tracks.
All was not lost as loads of vegitation has been removed allowing this shot to be bagged.
During my four-day loss of internet service, I decided I had enough images to start another collection, Shooting Sandstone.
From San Francisco to San Diego, I have shot sandstone, cliffs, rocks, formations, caves, whatever.
Going through the images and picking the best was something I have been thinking about for a while now. Thanks to AT&T, I finally had time.
Here's one from Just before going to Vegas with Nelly Bowes. I love how soft it is like shes going into the portal and reaching for the star to save her.

Photographing this scene but someone of the crew asked me, for who I was photographing because this was a shoot for an onlineshop. I explained that I was a streetphotographer, so no problem but when posting the photo but I had to mention the name, here it is : "Alysa" ( www.alysamode.nl )

Shell on the beach at Inch Strand. I like the pattern in the sand behind the shell making it look like a shooting star or a rocket.
the macromonday theme for today (4/24) is "intentional blur". took more than 30 pictures of these painted stars, which are each well under an inch. this may be my favorite of the 4 possibilities to post for today because it is so colorful but i think the one with the jean's rivet is the best example of blur with a little point and shoot......
.........(later) much as i love this one, i think i'm going with the jean's rivet one since the stars may be longer than the 3 inches allowed.

spontaneous shooting of a great mixed breed bitch - a bundle of energy
It's late and I'm awake
Staring at the wall
Open up my window
Head falls out the door
No one else around
And a shimmer takes my eye
I lift my head
Blinded by the sky
Feel my weight in front
Following the sound
Moves away so fast
Falling to the ground
I know what is more to come
Jump back to my feet
Now I only see ahead of me
Chasing down the street
Give my love to a shooting star
But she moves so fast
That I can't keep up
I'm chasing
I'm in love with a shooting star
But she moves so fast
When she falls then
I'll be waiting

I'm still fascinated by my alpine flower, Lewisia Elise, this time shooting through another alpine for a soft dreamy effect.
A few moments after shooting the last shot I happened to look behind me to see one of the most intense rainbows I've seen for a long time, I could see a wall of rain rapidly approaching to my right and knew it would be only moments before it would be on me.
I didn't have much time to recompose my shot as I could already feel the first heavy drops of rain on the side of my face, luckily the sun was still shining hitting the trees in the woods making them really stand out against the darker dramatic sky.(1/30 f6.3 @ 7mm NiSi 0.9 Reverse + 0.6 Hard ND grad filters 3d printed holder)
A meteor burning up as it encounters our atmosphere. It was a short-lived but awesome brightness as it flashed through the green of the northern lights.
Seit langer Zeit hatte ich wieder mal Zeit zum fotografieren. Danke an Eva, es hat riesig Spaß gemacht.
For a long time I had time to take photos. Thanks to Eva, it was a lot of fun.
There are two kinds of…
A. People… 1) those who have been to the Horseshoe Bend near Page, AZ and, 2) those who haven’t.
B. Photographers… 1) those who have shot the Horseshoe Bend near Page, AZ and, 2) those who haven’t.
C. Fools… 1) those who think they can shoot this iconic place in a way it has never been shot before, and, 2) those who don’t even try.
D. Narcissists… 1) those who strut to the edge and take endless selfies in front of this icon, and, 2) those who keep hoping that the sunset sky will catch fire just because they are shooting here today.
E. Outcome of shooting at the Horseshoe Bend… 1) your photo looks like million others on flickr, or, 2) it looks like the other zillion on the web.
F. Happiness… 1) one that comes from achieving what so many have accomplished before you (like, scoring a soccer or hockey goal or, shooting this icon), and, 2) the other that comes from just standing in front of this awe-inspiring piece of nature.
G. Inspiration… 1) one that you feel while standing as a fly in the Horseshoe Bend littoral, and, 2) the other that is drawn from your image by some individuals of the subtype A2/B2 above as they contemplate converting to subtype A1/B1.
