The mural by the artist Shepard Fairey was created for the project series of the Urban Nation Museum "One Wall" and represents a clear message: The lettering is an allusion to the slogan "Make Love Not War" and the handcuffed rose is supposed to represent that it is possible to rise above social constraints and create peace.

A few days down in London saw us visit the 'BEYOND THE STREETS' exhibition at the Saatchi Gallery. A superb collection from the last 50 years of ephemera, fashion, installations and artwork capturing the impact of graffiti and street art across the world, covering the often rough and raw beginnings to more disciplined studio works that some artists have evolved to.

All three floors of the gallery are given over to the exhibition - a visual feast and a fabulous way of spending a couple of hours👍

Blondie/CBGB mural by Shepard Fairey. I thought the man taking the photo looked very much like Andy Warhol.

Blondie did sit for an Andy Warhol portrait. In an interview she described how she met Andy Warhol: “We crossed paths. New York had an active street life - it was a small community back then. You often ran into people. You knew them already or got introduced. I bumped into Andy on Broadway and 13th street and said hello and we chatted about everything. I suppose this is how we met and our friendship grew from there. I got invited to the factory and knew others that worked for Andy. I knew Brigid Polk and Andy Coltrain.”

A new Shepard Fairey mural titled "Harmonious Elements", done in conjunction with his recent exhibition at Mortal Machine Gallery.

Shepard Fairey is probably most known for being the creator of the Obama "Hope" poster. Recently he was commissioned to paint a 184 foot by 60 foot mural on Detroit's Compuware building. While in town to do that work, he and his team found time to add some pieces around the city.

This Shepard Fairey mural is found on the side of the West Hollywood Park Tennis Courts, which are on the roof of a parking structure.

This 184 foot by 60 foot mural was just painted on the side of Detroit's Compuware building last week. The artist is Shepard Fairey, best known for creating the Obama "Hope" image.

What a story, from skateboarding street artist to Barack Obama's "Hope" poster and the "Obey" clothing line. Seems like a charmed life to me.

I am fascinated by the wonderful patterns and prints made by Shepard Fairey for his works. Like urban lace, they are full of intricacies and layers, and I also love his colors.

Sadly, we missed the Shepard Fairey exhibit at the Cincinnati Contemporary Art Museum by one day. Seriously, one day.

However, we did take some time to walk around the city and check out the various murals he'd installed around the city. We found this one in an alley behind a restaurant and one of the employees had parked their bike in front of it. One of the workers, who was on a smoke break, asked my wife and I if we wanted him to move the bike so we could get "better" pictures. lol...we laughed and asked him to leave it. Loved the way it interacted with the mural. Cincinnati, OH.
