oh yes. i learned this fact today.

after every take, i'd run inside, and run around the house a couple of times

to protect my poor, poor toesies from becoming frostbitten.

it was 29 degrees F.

which means snow feels even colder.

which means, coupled with wind, it felt below 0.

yeah.

Enoch Bolles (1883-1976) had a significant reputation in the early twentieth century for his sexy, provocative cover paintings for spicy magazines. His pin-up girls with their childlike faces and sensual bodies had a distinctive look and were full of energy and fun-loving. Tragically, Bolles suffered a mental collapse in 1938 and spent a large part of his life in a New Jersey mental institution until his release in 1969. He spent the last seven years of his life at his family home in New Jersey where he died of heart failure on March 16, 1976.

the stringed melody which keeps time to the boatsman's oar.

i am told from a number of sources that hou hai is a man made lake. like bei hai is as well. but before the lakes were excavated is was a shipping canal of sorts for bring rice to the forbidden city. so it is easy to imagine an entirely different scenario, where the tourists boats are replaced by farmers bringing their grains to market.

2013-02-28: My wife peers through the blinds to see how much snow fell overnight. The winter of 2012-13 extended far longer than any in my memory with accumulating snow falling as late as May.
