River Etive, Glen Etive.

A day out with our eldest son Joe and his partner Jenny .. after a year living in Shawlands, they were both going a bit stir crazy so we thought a day out in the country might do them good. Weatherwise, it was one of those days .. rained all the way there, rained all the time we were there, and rained all the way back. This was taken during a brief respite .. weatherwise, not bloody midge-wise, I might add ....

The picnic (eaten in the car) was good, mind you .. Sylvia excelled herself!

Strathclyde PTE took delivery of 25 MCW's Metrobus Mark 2 during 1983 with the last 10 arriving later that year as MB36 - MB45. MB38 is seen at the top of Byres Road at work on a 90 journey of the Inner Circle service in May 1988.

The Inner Circle was introduced on 18 June 1978 as services 89 (anti-clockwise) and 90 (clockwise), they linked six major city hospitals with a route around the suburbs from Govan through Shawlands, Mount Florida, Rutherglen, Parkhead, Springburn, Ruchill, Botanic Gardens and Partick returning to Govan through the Clyde Tunnel.

With service changes by 2020 the Inner Circle now survives as circular services 89/90 in late evenings only, the main daytime service run by First Glasgow is the 90 in both directions from Partick around the city but heading to Braehead Shopping Centre and serving the new QEU Hospital.

Greater Glasgow PTE realised a need for a small single deck vehicle for those hard to get to places and in 1978 acquired a pair of Seddon 'Pennine' IV/236 midibuses from the Greater Manchester PTE fleet for a new service 97 from Shawlands to the Hillpark housing estate.

The service proved popular, and a further 4 Seddons arrived then Leyland Nationals were hired from Grampian and Greater Manchester for evaluation on the route. Their success led to Greater Glasgow PTE ordering their own 20 Nationals and LN1 & LN2 soon displaced the Sedons from the route in April 1979,

The Seddons were not out of work for too long the PTE finding other uses for them including 3 being hired out to Central SMT at East Kilbride and then in May 1979 on the new Glasgow Inter-Station route linking the two rail terminals at Central and Queen Street. This service the 98 was so successful with its 15p flat fare it carried 20,000 passengers in its first three week and before long larger vehicles were also tried on the route.

The Seddons appear to have held on and S3 (YDB 453L) is seen in Queen Street Station in June 1981 depositing another passenger load from Central wearing its attractive PTE colour scheme.
