A clean repainted UP SD70M leads westbound train 135 through Cleveland at Shaver's Crossing on a picture perfect December afternoon. A good amount of these UP repaints have been showing up around these parts lately and are a nice reprieve from the grungy and faded power that is associated with their fleet.

One of my better shots taken during the best sunrise I've ever seen let alone photographed. This was taken on Shavers Fork (of the Cheat River) just outside of Elkins, WV October of 2022 right during peak fall colors for the area. Fog was thick and when the sun did break through, it produced these vibrant oranges and yellows, it was so cool!

The basic idea of the festival, named “Špancirfest”, is to make sure that during the period of the 10 days of the festival most visitors feel they belong to a particular cultural community that cultivates creative thinking, imagination and freedom of expression.

Gillette razor. Essential toiletry for most men even though the beard is very popular these days.

This was taken at Shaver Lake in the Sierras. I was kind of surprised to see this little guy here as cold as it was. It had snowed the previous night and it was still pretty cold.

I just acquired a Canon PowerShot camera and I'm impressed with what it can do for a point and shoot. This was taken at a full 65X zoom and was hand held. The grebe was at least 300 feet away from me when I took the picture. The reach of the camera is pretty impressive. You really need a tripod when you shoot this way though because the camera is almost impossible to keep steady with the zoom all the way out. The light weight of the camera will be nice to take on my fishing trips.

Strobist: AB1600 with gridded 60X30 softbox camera right. AB800 open behind backdrop of white faux suede. Triggered by Cybersync.

It's hard to shave when you don't have opposable digits.. or a shaver. This didn't stop Captain Morgan from trying though.

This was inspired by watching the football at the weekend. An ad for this electric razor gave me the idea. This has been focus stacked to get all the detail. The stack is made up of 70 images.

This is the removable head from a Braun 5 Series shaver. Specifically, the old one (ergo the broken mesh :) ).

Composed from 41 exposures at 150µm intervals (controlled by a StackShot), at f/8 and minimum focusing distance for the Sigma 105/2.8.

Three flashes used - one for frontal fill behind a diffuser, and two symmetrical to each side to provide highlights on the metal mesh (each with their own small diffuser).

Stacked using ZereneStacker, both PMax & DMap methods, with blending by hand in Photoshop.

Final edits done in Capture One 9.

One of those smoky days from a couple weeks ago.

Here is the Shaver tugboat Vancouver,

Behind are a lot of salmon fishing boats,

This frozen lake is at the bottom of the slopes at Snowshoe Mountain Resort.

Every year the community of Shaver puts on a fireworks show over the lake. It takes place on the Saturday that the Fourth occurs. We were camping in the area and drove down for the show that night. Thousands of people watched the 45 minute event around the lake. It took us 45 minutes to drive 500 yards to get back on the road to our campground. It was totally worth it.
