This is a great year for whales in my area and today was no exception. Here is one shot of a Humpback Whale scooping up a mouthful of bait fish. If you look closely you will see some that escaped being a meal. At one point, there were up to 4 whales right next to the pier.
Sharp Park Beach in California beckons for those who seek to walk their dog or catch a wave. On the northern end you will find a pier noted for its fishing. The coastal trail separates the beach from Sharp Park Golf Course.

The blue hour and light pollution from Pacifica Pier combine here to create an interesting mixture of colors. This is a fairly rare color image from me of late, but I like to throw in a splash of color every now and then :-)

I took a quick trip to the local pier at lunch yesterday. The fish were running, so the ocean was busy with birds, seals, whales and other life. I was told that I just missed a great white shark by 20 minutes, maybe next time.
Pacifica Pier
Pacifica, CA
Pacifica Pier is a fishing pier in Pacifica, in western San Mateo County, California. The L shaped pier spans out into the Pacific Ocean for a quarter mile from the City of Pacifica. Its official name is the Rev. Herschell Harkins Memorial Pacifica Pier.

52 Weeks of Landscapes (a 365 days series twist)
The municipal fishing pier in Pacifica, CA. I met a few of my photography buddies to shoot the fishing pier in Pacifica. As I drove in, I thought it was going to be a bust - foggy, but the weather held and got rewarded with a very nice sunset.
I was lucky once again with the birds.

Taken from the Berm at Sharp Park Beach
I did more processing than usual on this one. Desaturated the water, as in these darker shots it often comes out an unnatural blue. Increased contrast a little, to help show the forms of the lower clouds. Saturated the middle third a little to enhance the pink. That sounds like a lot, but I did use a light hand. I could make it look HDR to make everyone say wow, but this view is telling it like it was.
I noticed when Flickr downsizes photos it adds sharpening, which in this case makes the birds look a little outlined. See the original size for the real intent.
