I walked into my kitchen to carve meat off a turkey and noticed there were no birds at my feeder. That either means there is a cat nearby or that a sharp-shinned hawk has frightened the birds away. Turns out after a short search I saw the hawk on the ground eating a bird. I had a 400mm lens on my camera. Since the bird was only 12 feet away I couldn't get the entire bird in the first few photos. I changed to a 70-200mm lens and took a few shots until the hawk flew to a planter about 18 feet from me. I took a few shots at 200mm and then changed back to the 400mm. What is remarkable is that I have never been able to snap more than 2 or 3 photos in the past, but this sharp-shinned allowed me to take many photos and even gave me time to change lenses twice. It looked right at me many times but did not fly.

Sharp’s Brewery arrived at Finsbury Square’s London Beach Rugby in the form of the ‘Sharp’s Secret Bar’. As it’s, y’know… a secret bar, I’ve promised the brewery not to give away too much as to what it entails. What I can tell you is that there is lots of rare Sharp’s beers involved and that you get to taste them. If you like beer, you’ll probably enjoy it. A little about the brewery: Sharp’s were founded in 1994 in St Minver Lowlands, Rock, Cornwall, by Bill Sharp (see what he did there?). They are probably best known for their ‘flagship’ ale, Doom Bar (which is named after a sandbar at the mouth of the estuary of the River Camel, on the north coast of Cornwall)
The Doom Beach Party was essentially a party/afterparty in Sharp’s popup Doom Bar at the London Beach Rugby. Said Beach Rugby is an ‘imported’ beach that has appeared in various parks throughout since 2013. This year it was to be found in Finsbury Square, and saw about 50 rugby teams playing in front of around a thousand attendees/spectators. We showed up a bit late for the rugby, but just in time for pissed French rugby players singing unintelligible songs and watching the sun set/people losing their shit to The Bombay Bicycle Club (who were DJing as part of the finale).
Finsbury Square has been there since about 1777. Apparently the south side of the square was once known ‘The Sodomite’s Walk’ as it was very popular as a gay cruising area. I didn’t see any same sex love during the few hours we spent there. When not installing beaches there I am told that it's the site of a farmer’s market. Also, My new workplace is just down the road in Finsbury Circus so I am looking forward to getting to know the area a little more in the next few months

And too, the golden mean and divine proportion are found in every model--in her pretty face and in the divine proportions of the 45surf goddess's heavenly body! I'm working on a book on all this beautitful craziness in fine art landscapes and models called The Golden Hero's Odyssey, which also ties it to my physics theory Dynamic Dimenions theory (dx4/dt=ic). :)

I knew about sharp-edge diffraction, but I hadn't seen any good visual examples of it until I took this picture. At the time, I simply liked the way that the leaves were silhouetted. I took the pictures with a fairly long telephoto, and when I looked at them on the monitor at 1:1, I discovered the diffraction effect around the leaves (notice that there's little to no diffraction around the branches).
I did a little cropping and color balancing, but no real post-processing tricks; the leaves really did have the glowing outlines if you zoomed enough.

In the spring, sharp-tailed grouse form mating grounds, or leks, where they congregate to compete for territories and perform mating displays for visiting females. This crowded scene leads to fighting among the males as they attempt to outcompete one another and win the affections of the onlooking females.
