Had my bloods done this morning in preparation for tomorrow's kimo. Why do nurses always say 'ready for a sharp scratch?' It's not a sharp scratch, it's a bloody needle that goes into your arm and hurts!
After some of my feathered friends visiting my feeders. I don't like it but hey we all have to eat to live.
A friend ask me to come out looking for Hawks and he took me to a place that had a family of Sharp Shinned Hawks. This is Dad preparing the meal for the little hawks.
White Satin Blouse vs. Black Leather Skirt
She wears us both. Me, the shiny shimmering satin blouse, and the short leather skirt. We serve the same woman, but differently. The skirt is bold and provocative; it screams "SLUT". It speaks in sharp syllables: want, look, touch. The kind of cut that invites assumptions, the kind that makes men stare at her legs and lose sight of her voice.
If the skirt were longer, it might read as elegant, authoritative, and mystery. As short as it is, it plays the decoy. It draws their hunger, while I stand guard.
I press against her breasts with purpose. I shield what they stare at but do not own. I shimmer to say, back off. These curves belong to no one. I am her crisp white blouse, a knight in shining satin, and I do not yield.
You may think I’m jealous, but I’m not; I’m just protective. The skirt may draw them in, but I decide how close they get.
I am white satin. I don’t shout to be seen. I shine so you remember me.

I thought this was a Coopers Hawk. After studying more of it, I think it is a Sharp-shinned. I took this from about 70 feet away as it is a heavy crop.

Next up on my journey home to Hampshire (07/02/2025) was a look in at Sharpes of Langar. Their coach fleet is made up of absolutely immaculate Van Hool coaches and has got to be one of the best presented in the UK. Simple as that!

Sharp plants, sharp teeth, sharp looking boat. all found in St. Lawrence a small town in North QLD. In the 2021 census, the locality of St Lawrence had a population of 245 people.
Tonight, I have posted another four photos taken on 27 June 2022.
It had been just over a month since I did a full day drive. On 27 June, it was the annual spring cleaning of our parking lot and all vehicles had to be removed by 7:30 am. I don't have street parking, so it meant that I needed to fill the time away from home. What better excuse for a long drive! On 25 May 2022, I had taken my daughter out for the day, driving SE of Calgary. Part of my drive on 27 June 2022 was along some of the same roads.
It felt so good to be out seeing birds and other wildlife. Old familiar barns, too; even several kinds of wildflower. This spring, I have had to miss just about all the wildflowers, as well as many bird species. On this day, I was so lucky to have several much-appreciated sightings, including finally coming across a Sharp-tailed Grouse walking across the road way ahead in front of me. I used to love seeing these birds, but hadn't seen one the last few years.
Two other birds I was so glad to see were a Horned Lark who posed nicely on a fence post, and a Great Horned Owlet. From a distance, I could see the outline of an owl, but it suddenly disappeared from sight. Driving very slowly past the trees, I spotted the youngster deep within the dark tangle of branches. Fortunately, a gap allowed quite a nice view of the young owl.
I always see hawks on this drive, the biggest thrill being a family of Ferruginous Hawks. Usually, I get better photos of the Swainson's and Red-tailed Hawks than I did this day, but I never tire of seeing these majestic birds of prey.
At a final, quick stop before continuing my drive home, all I saw were a couple of Yellow-headed Blackbirds and .... a Wilson's Snipe, one of my favourite birds to see and photograph : ) The latter was a surprise and, with a back view for a change, it did look rather cute.
Being out for 11 hours was a longer day than my usual day trips. I was tired out, but being out in nature rarely fails to leave me on a happy high. Distance travelled was 392 km.
Would love to have been able to sleep in the next morning, but I had to be up very early to welcome a plumber and his mate who came to install a new waste food disposer under my kitchen sink. The old one must have been leaking for a long time into the cupboard. Feels like luxury to be able to use my kitchen sink again, after washing dishes in the bathroom sink for about three weeks! A good thing done. Next thing on the urgent To Do List is to arrange for an electrician to come and repair/service my furnace. Thank goodness this problem arose now and not during the frigid winter months!

Sharp Edge - Blencathra.
The view looking back from the slabs at the base of Foule Crag, across to the 'Bad Step' and the Gendarme.
Two people are seen crossing this fine ridge in lovely Summer weather.
The Backgroung fell is Souther Fell, with the A66 viewed wending its way East, back to Penrith.
Usually, there is almost a 'conga-line' of folk traversing the ridge. I was certainly lucky this day, as there seemed only to be a handfull of people on the ridge.
This is one of my favourite images comitted to slide film.
The original image was taken on a Ricoh KR-10M SLR, using Fujichrome 200 ASA slide film.
The slide was given 4 scans at 7200dpi, and post processed using Adobe Photoshop.
