Part of a small pair of scissors, that has the shape of a crane. In full size it would be too big for the Macro Mondays theme: 'Sharp'.

Have a great start of this new week!!!

Happy Macro Mondays everyone ;-))

A territorial bird, the Sharp-shinned Hawk's name describes its flattened, thin tarsus or shank. This is the smallest of the North American accipiters; the female is larger than the male.

The bird was in my yard, several different perches most of the morning. Briefly it was out in the open so I was able to get a few photos out my front door. It flushed shortly after I took this photo but was back latter in the day. IMG_8124

“...what thrills me about trains is not their size or their equipment but the fact that they are moving, that they embody a connection between unseen places.”

― Marianne Wiggins

These railroad tracks run alongside the Colorado River (on the left here, sitting below/between the gravel bank and the sagebrush) and the road, to the right of the tracks. It's a dramatic experience if a driver happens to be cruising along one of the tight corners of the road at the same time as an oncoming train!

I found this bird in my backyard yesterday (10/31) eating a Halloween treat. The prey may have been a Dark-eyed Junco. Unfortunate for the junco but the hawk has to eat. Although it is hard to tell from the photo the hawk was under the canopy of a shrub on a dark mostly cloudy day so the photos are not as sharp as I would like. Yakima County, Washington. IMG_9536

While I was watching the warblers and kinglets flying around in the brush, all of a sudden everyone disappeared. I seen something had flown in nearby and there he was... a juv. sharpie. Made my day as I don't see this little hawk very often.

This is a sharp knife I picked up at a Renaissance Faire many years ago.

The total frame is about 2 inches. I've placed a measurement photo in the first comment box. I also placed a full shot of the knife in case anyone is interested.
