We suddenly have too many desks and too many chairs at A Space Apart. A company upstairs moved out, donating their spare desks and chairs. Now our once Kubrickian common space is a cluttered hodgepodge.

1 June 2014. In Old Mill Street, Manchester 4, looking south-west towards the tall block of flats called Islington Wharf. Part of the regeneration project "New Islington". It's about a mile (1.6 km) to Manchester City Centre.

Link to an update and wholly positive view of New Islington on the website of ASPIS (Auditing the Sustainability of Public Places).

Although the street as we saw on 1 June 2014 appears unfinished - a work in progress - apparently, it was the completed design. Click the links below for information by designers Grant Associates, and civil engineers VolkerStevin.

The Priority Express rider turned up unexpectedly - but made a good point in the process.

A view of the Keauhou Beach Resort. Part of the resort is lies over the Kahaluu bay, right on the Pacific. People can see waves crashing onto the near by lava rocks pretty close by. And the sunset over here is just unobstructed and simply mesmerizing.

This is the place I stayed while on my vacation in Big Island.

I'm right over the bridge now. I think that's four lanes of traffic on this side of the roundabout. Notice how faded and uncertain the paint is. Not very good for driver confidence. It was a relief not to have had to cycle on that bit.

This is a different hotel with a different kind of pattern. Do you see this as urban art or urban decay? What do you think?

Number 5 of 20 - this set needs to be read and seen in sequence.

Coming to the end of Queen Square's tranquillity the route ahead looks tricky. There's a parked car, a side entrance (by the look of it), pedestrians and cars that might be turning from the bridge ahead.

Nevertheless, there's a big comforting bike painted on special paving to aim at, as well as a carved flagstone or two so all is well.

A view of the Keauhou Beach Resort. I got reminded of the patterns we've seen in Honolulu,Oahu: www.flickr.com/photos/worldofarun/sets/72157623652017954/.

The cycle path on this end of the route crosses a number of driveways with different treatments. Proper give way lines and year-round visibility of path markings on this busy entrance would help cyclists.

Not at all comfortable for pedestrians confronted by oncoming cyclists... neither have a full view of what lies ahead.

From this point on the A369 there is a shared use path already marked out. At some points, as here, it is narrow.
