For Our Daily Challenge group, "shared", for the 26th June 11.
Went down to Mindil Beach markets this evening, and watched the sunset, with my mom, boyfriend and his parents. We shared the beach with hundreds of other people.
Mindil Beach markets are a bit of a Darwin icon - everyone heads down (tourists and locals) for a cheap feed and a few drinks. This evening everyone clapped when the sun went below the horizon!
Off camping tomorrow….. And I have so many images already to go through from the few days my mom has been visiting….! More to come over the following weeks, I'm sure!

Afghan National Army soldier Taza Khan hands a bag of beef jerky to a local boy, injured by an improvised explosive device, while patrolling with U.S. Marines from 3rd Platoon, Lima Company, 3rd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment during Operation Tageer Shamal (Shifting Winds) in Helmand province, Jan. 5. Over the past few years, Afghan and coalition forces have operated side by side, driving insurgents from the green zones, or populated areas, of the districts in southern Helmand. The few enemy fighters that remain from a decidedly weak insurgency have moved to the outskirts of these districts where, until now, the presence of the partnered forces has been minimal. With the start of this operation, Afghan forces and Marines with 3/3 moved to the outskirts of Garmsir district along the western side of the Helmand River, clearing the area of insurgent activity, weapons and improvised explosive device-making materials. Terry O'Neil sharing a phone pic with the wife of Doug Kirkland. Terry is a 60's photographer who made his name and a lifetime career starting with photographing the Beatles, then the Rolling Stones and moving on to many of the worlds most famous stars.
Although, when talking about the stars he’d photographed, he said that. unlike his friend Doug Kirkland, he’d never photographed Marilyn Monroe!
I know its cold for some of you.. so i am sharing the love from Florida! The azaleas here dont know whats going on.. one day its cold (50 degrees...lol) and the next it warms up... so some of them blume early. Some pay per view gardens here that are famous for azaleas will actually put ice around the base of the bush so the azaleas dont blume until a certain week when tourist show up.

Spotted a couple sitting in the first warm rays of the sun on a park bench. On passing in front of them, I saw a young woman reading to quite an elderly man: maybe an aging parent. He was shabbily dressed, with no socks on. I wondered about his situation and it made me feel sad.
As you know, I love every kind of animal, but I have a soft spot for sheep.
I can spend hours looking at flocks through my lens - it's just great when you "find the shot" picking out your subject among a crowd, isn't it?
I feel happy, as I always feel when I'm out with my camera, but... I feel also sad and guilty.
Easter is coming and, as every year, the murder of so many lambs is coming too.
When a lamb watches me, or comes to me with joy and curiosity, so similar to a little child; or when a mother sheep looks at me with her impenetrable yet sad eyes: those moments, and many other moments... I feel impotent to stop that massacre, and the daily massacre animals are victims of, and I don't feel proud at all to belong to mankind.
If you are not vegetarian or vegan, please consider that the "piece of flesh" in your dish was a living being with feelings, family and friend. You can't love and eat animals at the same time. "Animals are my friends... and I don't eat my friends" said George Bernard Shaw. You have to choose your side.
Ok... you know I'm a "normal" vegetarian, not an extremist, and I'm not inclined to preach. But at least "semel in anno" I have to :)
