I love the feel of this post-editing where Mehdi and Leila are standing in the rain and the washed up water mixed with sand presents golden shadows. A tranquil and heart warming setting unfolds where all that matters is that they are sharing time. Washington DC, 29 October 2017.

USAID hosted a Signature Event —Shared Progress: Modernizing Development Finance on September 22, 2016 in New York City, NY. Running concurrently to the United Nations General Asembly, the event highlighted the challenges and opportunities for financing current and future development goals.
During the event, UAID Administrator Gayle Smith and Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Christine Lagarde, discussed how to foster an enabling environment for private investment and increasing domestic resource mobilization. A panel of speakers also offered recommendations on how to make better use of the three streams of finance in order to improve development outcomes.

This is the continuation of a photo-project that I began in the summer of 2008: a random collection of "interesting" people in a broad stretch of the Upper West Side of Manhattan -- between 72nd Street and 104th Street, especially along Broadway and Amsterdam Avenue.
As I indicated when I started this project in 2008, I don't like to intrude on people's privacy, so I normally use a telephoto lens in order to photograph them while they're still 50-100 feet away from me; but that means I have to continue focusing my attention on the people and activities half a block away, rather than on what's right in front of me.
I've also learned that, in many cases, the opportunities for an interesting picture are very fleeting -- literally a matter of a couple of seconds, before the person(s) in question move on, turn away, or stop doing whatever was interesting. So I've learned to keep the camera switched on (which contradicts my traditional urge to conserve battery power), and not worry so much about zooming in for a perfectly-framed picture ... after all, once the digital image is uploaded to my computer, it's pretty trivial to crop out the parts unrelated to the main subject.
Thus far, I've generally avoided photographing bums, drunks, crazies, and homeless people. There are a few of them around, and they would certainly create some dramatic pictures; but they generally don't want to be photographed, and I don't want to feel like I'm taking advantage of them. I'm still looking for opportunities to take some "sympathetic" pictures of such people, which might inspire others to reach out and help them. We'll see how it goes ...
The only other thing I've noticed, thus far, is that while there are lots of interesting people to photograph, there are far, far, far more people who are not so interesting. They're probably fine people, and they might even be more interesting than the ones I've photographed ... but there was just nothing memorable about them.
This is an image from my collection. Although predominantly slide scans, it includes other types of media as well. All have been collected over the past 40+ years of shooting Kodachrome and digital images, slide purchases and many years of exchanging. I was fortunate enough to trade with some of the best airliner photographers around the world.
Created in 2017, this is a curated archive that serves to share what otherwise would be kept in binders and boxes, not being enjoyed by anyone, myself included.

I post edited this image of Bryana a spirited young lady I met while on a business trip who worked at the front desk of the hotel I stayed at. I wanted to bring out her eyes and front of her face with some sharpness while, texturing her hair and creating a grainy or staticky feel on the ambience surrounding her. It gives a feeling of being near a fireplace and just chatting with someone interesting and special. It's about realness, interaction that can only happen when we're willing to share a moment. Millington Tennessee, 15 August 2017.

You've met both of the cats and my hamster, but never met my dog. This is Sandy, my uber loving Shepard/Husky mix. Her bed sits under the table when you first walk in the house. We were spending some quality friend time together.

These cousins made their way out to this rock in the lake and had their famous "little adult conversations" while they shared sticks and enjoyed the dirt and water while on vacation!

The bonds that two brothers share are like no others. I always enjoy photographing Donte and Keon whenever I can. I told them to just pretend I wasn't standing in front of them and I started taking pictures. I like when people can just be themselves in front of my camera. Donte (on the left in this photograph) is preparing to take the GRE exam for graduate school. Keon (on the right in this photograph) finishing up his PHD program at the University of Pennsylvania in Africana Studies. Both are undergraduate alumni of Wake Forrest University in North Carolina. Yes, they are identical twins, it took me a while, but I can tell them apart from each other now.
