Chi sei tu che difeso dalla notte entri nel mio chiuso pensiero?
What man art thou that, thus bescreened in night,
So stumblest on my counsel?

It is well known now as Shakespeare's phrase "The Darling Buds of May" was used as the title for his novel by H.E. Bates... which has since been adapted for television too 😊

Sonnet 18
Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day?
Thou art more lovely and more temperate:
Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May,
And summer’s lease hath all too short a date;
Sometime too hot the eye of heaven shines,
And often is his gold complexion dimm'd;
And every fair from fair sometime declines,
By chance or nature’s changing course untrimm'd;
But thy eternal summer shall not fade,
Nor lose possession of that fair thou ow’st;
Nor shall death brag thou wander’st in his shade,
When in eternal lines to time thou grow’st:
So long as men can breathe or eyes can see,
So long lives this, and this gives life to thee.
A menacing and sinister looking cloud sat over an apartment building on the far bank of the reservoir. As it churned and blustered it reminded me of my high school English class in Shakespeare. How it too would carry on in some indignant way that would have no effect.
Macbeth - "Life's but a walking shadow; a poor player, that struts and frets his hour upon the stage, and then is heard no more: it is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing."
Trying to find something different for the returning Shakespeare yesterday (there's not). I missed the classic approaching Dorridge shot, so this is a look back to 2011 when GWR 5043 Earl of Mount Edgcumbe took charge.

Globe Theatre history
The Globe Theatre, an iconic Elizabethan playhouse in London, is famous for its 360-degree auditorium, where both audience and performers are always visible to each other. The current Globe is the third version of the original, which was first opened in 1599 by the Lord Chamberlain’s Men, a company Shakespeare wrote for and partly owned.
In its first year, Shakespeare wrote Julius Caesar and As You Like It, and began work on the legendary Hamlet. Over the next decade, he produced masterpieces like Othello, King Lear and Macbeth, all still performed at the Globe today.
Siamo fatti della stessa sostanza di cui sono fatti i sogni.
We are such stuff
As dreams are made on, and our little life
Is rounded with a sleep.

I described this idea and process yesterday in my picture "Camera Lucida". This is not quite Marcel Duchamp's moustache on the Mona Lisa en.wikipedia.org/wiki/L.H.O.O.Q. but I did make use of our bust of William Shakespeare. It is the sort of thing Terry Gilliam would have done in Monty Python's Flying Circus.

This Holly bush sits in front of my parent's home in Homosassa, Florida. On top of the holly bush sits a mockingbird named Shakespeare. He's spent the last four winter's right in the same spot and while I was there I saw him sitting there every day. For a mockingbird, he doesn't sing much unlike my parent's dog Heidi who loves to sing. I think this is because he is not too interested with courting and prefers to spend the days eating the Holly berries. Another more logical explanation is that Shakespeare is most likely a female who tend to sing less than the male.
Some things you may not know: The northern mockingbird is the Official State Bird of Florida. Florida designated the nothern mockingbird (Mimus polyglottos) as the official state bird in 1927. Northern Mockingbirds have extraordinary vocal abilities; they can sing up to 200 songs (except Shakespeare it would seem), including the songs of other birds, insect and amphibian sounds (even an occasional mechanical noise). The northern mockingbird is also the state bird of Texas, Arkansas, Tennessee and Mississippi. Interesting picks considering it's a northern mockingbird.

I picked these Cecile Brunner climbing roses out of our garden...they have the loveliest fragrance! The book is Shakespeare (Romeo & Juliet), printed in 1901. It's part of a collection of 16 Shakespeare books that we have.

The engineer of 568 has all 3 geeps in notch 8 as they struggle to get moving after working SMI bulk transfer in the background. Leading the days train was one of 7 recently acquired UP GP38-N's (GP38-2 under CN). Although shooting the ancient fleet of geeps CN has is nice, shooting a geep with a near factory fresh paint job is always a treat.

Shakespeare's Globe is a reconstruction of the Globe Theatre, an Elizabethan playhouse first built in 1599 for which William Shakespeare wrote his plays. Like the original, it is located on the south bank of the River Thames, in Southwark, London. The reconstruction was completed in 1997 and while concentrating on Shakespeare's work also hosts a variety of other theatrical productions. Part of the Globe's complex also hosts the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse for smaller, indoor productions, in a setting which also recalls the period.

Going away pic of 37240 at Edstone on the 1Z74 1335 Stratford-upon-Avon - Birmingham Snow Hill 'Shakespeare Express'. Unfortunately no luck with it heading into Stratford and this going away pic was only possible because of the dry weather meant the 37 had to stay on 10/8/25. (Taken using a pole)

When I was in Paris, France, I had to go by the famous Shakespeare & Company Bookstore. I could have spent all day in there. When you purchase a book here, they stamp it "Shakespeare & Co."

Photo taken during A Midsummer Night’s Dream by William Shakespeare, a play to celebrate the 25th season of Repercussion theatre.
One from my recent trip to Stratford. Did the whole touristy thing and took the open top bus to Anne Hathaway's Cottage. Not called Anne Shakespeare's cottage as she didn't live there after she was married.
There was a beautiful willow art installation in the grounds that you can see part of in the photo.
