Wildlife photography will take me by this farmhouse soon. It will be interesting to see how it has fared.

Yggdrasil shakes, and shiver on high

The ancient limbs, and the giant is loose;

To the head of Mim does Othin give heed,

But the kinsman of Surt shall slay him soon.

How fare the gods? how fare the elves?

All Jotunheim groans, the gods are at council;

Loud roar the dwarfs by the doors of stone,

The masters of the rocks: would you know yet more?

I would appreciate any idea of what this might have been used for. There are multiple barns and out buildings on this abandoned farm, but this is the only one with siding of shakes and that is raised. The barn would be harder to use on account of being raised. I did not take the trouble enter it as I otherwise would have. There is a small river or stream nearby but it had high banks.

The contraptions on the roof seem to be vents with latches. The north side of the barn has something similar but flush to the roof (#3).

Winter

A bit of rain fell which prompted the all important and everlasting "weather" talk. Something that I find rather amusing... :)

Not mine, emailed by a friend, just had to post it because its so darn funny.

Tony was walking down the south side of Randolph Street toward Dearborn Street with a large backpack and his cat "Shakes" sitting on a blanket that was draped around Tonys' neck. He's been out here for five years. Throughout our conversation, he said "I'm alright...I'm alright". He usually stays in the west loop, but he was displaced today so he was walking east. "I kind of keep to myself", he said, "a lot of people out here are scandalous. Occasionally I'll run into a nice person, but generally people aren't nice." It was obvious he loved his cat, giving him a stately place to sit while he was walking down the street. "I found two cats in Garfield Park. I gave one to the shelter but I kept Shakes." Shakes meowed "goodbye" as I walked away.

Shake siding, shake shingles with the SW corner taking the brunt of the winds. Revealing dovetail joins and mixed mud insulation.

I take this same shot every year, and it always turns out a little different. Do you have images you make every year? I'd love to see them, if you feel like adding them to the comments.
