On the Tuesday before our 2014 opening night, we held a salon at the beautiful Salle Pianos in San Francisco. Matti Bye Ensemble gave us an intimate look at what goes into composing for silent film by juxtaposing one clip from the Danish film THE GOLDEN CLOWN (Sandberg, 1926) with several different musical accompaniments. So, last night was pretty cool! We tried all kinds of food! And it was the perfect setting, because they had these permanent stalls for the vendors, and a lot of space for eaters to sit, etc! It was chilly, so they provided heat lamps & little blankets! So, one of the first things we got was from "The American South," (they had the food divided into geographic food regions). We got (top right start): Platter with Collard Greens from Minnie Bell's, Baked Beans from Zella's Soulful Kitchen, North Carolina Whole Hog Pork from Skylight Inn BBQ, & delicious Cheese Grits from @sugarfootgrits ! Comstock's "Hot Chicken" from Comstock Saloon (bot rt); @kortria scored a free slice of Sweet Potato Grits Pie (bot lft) from Sugarfoot Grits, by being a sweet talker & in the right place at the right time, because it wasn't even on the menu! Score! And, last, but not least, the Tennessee BBQ Pork (top lft) from Helen's BBQ! Wooo-eee! Boy howdy, that's a lot of food! But there were 5 of us. The grits were my fave cuz I love good grits! But everything was delicious! The chicken was nice & crispy & tasty! La Cocina Night Market Eats - from the China & Southeast Asia Region: Penang Prawn Noodles (top left) from Alexander Ong - crystal noodles in spicy broth with shrimp - spicy! It was good, but it did have an overly fishy taste. Top right & bottom left are both Murtabak from Azalina's, but one of them is supposed to be Savory Vegetable, & one Sweet, but they were identical except one had a meat curry on it (I'm guessing the meat one). I thought the sweet one would have been a dessert one, because there was nothing sweet about the meat one. And Bottom Right are the Pork & Shrimp Egg Rolls from Brandon Jew w/ a sweet fruity chutney-like sauce - very good!
