As we took a walk for ice cream, I took the chance to snap some photos of downtown Savannah during the golden hour and the blue. I like this shot because of the colors: from the neon lights on the signs and the blue of the evening sky. Leopold's did not disappoint, though I myself only partook of a few bites. I hope the Seven Samurai live up to the hype come September 22.

The We're Here challenge for today is on the theme of Japanese Cinema.

This is a still from 'Seven Saveloy' which was the ill-fated sausage remake of Akira Kurosawa's masterpiece 'Seven Samurai'. Sadly, it never got beyond concept stage and instead Hollywood remade Seven Samurai as the non-pork-based 'The Magnificent Seven'. Incidentally, in this photograph, the saveloy on the left is the James Coburn character, even though it actually looks more like Yul Brynner. In fact, they all look like Yul Brynner. Or perhaps it is fairer to say that Yul Brynner looked more like a sausage. There are rumours that 'Seven Saveloy' may finally be made for Netflix by Adam Sandler.

Made this on Photoshop. It's from Sword Of Doom. Added this to Japan through the eyes of others because I can't take piccies but when I think of Japan Toshiro always comes to mind.

Toshiro Mifune was one of Japan's greatest film actors. He worked a great deal with the master filmmaker Akira Kurosawa. Their collaborations included "Rashomon," "Seven Samurai," "Yojimbo," "Sanjuro," "The Bad Sleep Well," "High and Low," "The Hidden Fortress," and "Throne of Blood." It was on the film "Red Beard" that the two had a falling out. They would never work together again.

Mifune also did the "Samurai Trilogy," which was a three-part biographical film about Miyamoto Musashi. He appeared in the miniseries "Shogun," and he also appeared in many Hollywood films, such as "Grand Prix," "Red Sun," and "Midway."

This is a project I did for a film class. Took the posters from 7 Samurai and Star Wars and combined elements of them to make this out of LEGO® Mini-Figs. I think it came out pretty neat.

I thought I'd close the Japan travelogue for now with a brief tribute to the Japanese film industry. Sakura was a constant theme in Akira Kurosawa's movies, and Ueno Park is one of the most popular sites for cherry blossom. While I've never seen Hidden Fortress, which influenced George Lucas's Star Wars, films like Seven Samurai, Yojimbo and Rashomon made a big impression. As Lucas says, Kurosawa's visual graphics, framing, and imagery set the mood for telling much of the story.

While I saw a few Japanese movies this trip there was only one which felt Japanese. The comedy "The Apology King' is very funny. The trailer in Japanese is here www.youtube.com/watch?v=o7tOHI3USBA

and the movie with (passable) English subs

Microscale mock up for a minifig scale village in Big in Japan at BrickCon 2010. Based on the farming village in Akira Kurosawa's movie, Seven Samurai.

This is the eastern end of the village, where most of the movie action takes place.

One of our family favorite attractions is "It's Tough to be a Bug" in California Adventure's, A Bug's Land. This 4-D attraction (3D + smell and feeling) is really exciting for the whole family, which stars the funny Flik and a bunch of other friendly bugs with an entertaining show - - all until Hopper shows up to get revenge on us humans!

Taken with the 3D glasses in front of the camera lens.

The Lego Knights recreate the Poster for "The Seven Samurai" by Akira Kurosawa.

If you wonder why there are only six samurai, the seventh is of course taking the picture :-)

Though these are only 2.5 inches tall, they're nicely detailed. Akira Kurosawa and camera crew with the cast of his classic SEVEN SAMURAI.

A micro scale sketch for a minifig scale display I'm planning for BrickCon 2010. The farming village from Akira Kurosawa's 1954 movie "Seven Samurai." Possibly the best movie ever.

(I'm not exactly sure how much I like the different roof colors or if I should change them all to the same color. I had them all as gray, but changed it at the last minute because I had more shape variety in a variety of colors.)

never messed around with colorizing a black & white image before. There are probably 100 things wrong with it to the trained eye, but I like it!
