The Amelander commanders' houses on the Dutch Wadden island of Ameland were inhabitated by the commanders (captains) on the ships involved in whaling.
These commanders were able to build stone houses due to their high incomes.
This cottage dates from 1735 and the year can be read on the wall anchors on the front facade.
The cottages were constructed with a gable and saddle roof and the brickwork was done in "Frisian Yellow" an old hand-formed brick type, while they were single-storeyed and the large attic space under the roof served as a storage space.
The original layout on the ground floor was limited to a long corridor along the length of the house and a living toom with an area of 20 m2, while on the opposite side there were two box beds.
The clearly recognisable two legdes on the front facade indicate that a commander of whaling lived here and these were held in high esteem by the locals.
Between the two windows on the front facade, you can recognise the soot of the fireplace that stood inside on this spot.
Oh I wish this had been true. No leopards on this safari, but lots of wonderful scenes in the beautiful wilderness of Botswana.
Several folks have mentioned recently that the animals look so happy. I know that zoos serve their purpose in way, BUT animals shouldn't be in captivity. If one is fortunate enough to go on safari, the one thing that will strike you the most is the happiness of the animals.
There really is a difference and it is particularly noticeable in peaceful Botswana. Visitors are limited and the animals are protected by the army and the staff of the wildlife preserves.

Originally the moated castle was used as a shelter and workshop for the dockers, who carried out the maintenance and repair of the hydraulic storage winches. They were called Windenwächter or Windenwächter and had - in addition to other technical personnel - the privilege to live in the Speicherstadt.
The winches were an important component of the storage buildings: there were - and still are today - no freight elevators. All goods were drawn with winches on the outside to the facades to or from the storage floors of the store.
The spare parts required for the maintenance work, some of them heavy, could be transported from here over the roads and canals. On the waterway over two cranes on the east side of the building, on land over an old paved road that leads directly into the building and ends behind the large double doors of the water castle.
Nowadays the building is used commercially. On the ground floor there is a commercial space for tea trade with attached gastronomy. On the first floor, a provider of oxygen therapy is located. Because of its location and architecture, it also served as a backdrop for television productions, such as the TV series "Die Pfefferkörner".
The Wasserschlösschen also trades under the name "Außenentraustelle" of the registry office Hamburg-Mitte.
This image serves as a call to action, urging us to acknowledge the existence of marginalized communities and their struggle for basic necessities. It prompts reflection on the systemic issues that perpetuate poverty and the need for collective efforts to create a more equitable world. While the girl's identity remains anonymous, her indomitable spirit shines through, leaving a lasting impact on those who encounter her gaze.
Trapezia Crab Spider (Sidymella trapezia)
I have been seeing a number of these Crab Spiders in the garden recently. This one had caught a fly for dinner late yesterday afternoon on one of our African Daisies.

Fabulously Free St. Patty's Day Hunt til March 26

The cutest tea house I've ever been to. Where they have a large assortment of teapots in all shapes and serve the largest pieces of cake.

A simple meal of cheese, apple and bread. While simple, the Canadian cheddar, Honey crisp apples and home-made whole wheat molasses bread, make it delicious.
Typical Swedish starter, "SOS" - Smör - Ost - Sill (butter - cheese - herring), toghether with beer and snaps.

This is not the right way
Some have said that I was given keys to the city of your dreams
I'm more content to walk outside the walls and catch a breeze
I'm more inclined to climb on by or ride internal seas
I'm more alive to vibe inside a mansion full of trees
I do this for a reason that they can't pretend to glean
I lose myself infused in something more than what they've seen
I'm not a slave to greed
I don't embrace your make believe
I've never been for sale no matter what they think I need
So let it be decreed
Let this music serve the deed
Let it spread like a disease
Let it spawn a noble seed
There's more than meets the eye
There's more than meets the price
If you can't see the sky there's too much artificial light
I can't predict my path, but they can't fully see my past
I'm running from the flash but heading straight inside the blast
A mountain full of ego built upon a heap of trash
Is exactly what you get when you can't fully do the math
This is not the right way
But this is my way
ENG: You can see the Tram TM 36 (3587) of the Berlin Transport Company (BVG) in front of the Kleinmachnower lock directly at the river Teltow canal and dates back to 1938. This now serves as an information center of the regional heritage association. Part of the lock building can also be seen in the background.
It is part of the Tram (Street Car) line 96, which once connected Behrenstrasse in Berlin Mitte and Tempelhof with Teltow, Stahnsdorf and Kleinmachnow. In 1887, a 5-kilometer streetcar line was built from Groß-Lichterfelde, now called Lichterfelde-Ost, to Teltow. It was initially single-tracked and required a travel time of 30 minutes. Four years later, the line was extended to Stahnsdorf and in 1905 to Machnower Schleuse. The steam vehicles (also known as lame ducks) were not very powerful at the time, so the line was converted to electric operation in 1907. From 1930, it then drove as line 96. But with the construction of the Berlin Wall, the Tram operation was unfortunately discontinued. Since 2012, the car is open to visitors after extensive renovation.

Returning from fishing, a manu o ku serves up a breakfast of colorful, translucent larval fish to its nestling. The manu o Kū, bird of the war god Kū, catches fish and squid, often alternating heads and tails after multiple sequential captures. Manu o Kū is also known throughout the tropics as the white tern (Gygis alba). They are arboreal nesting seabirds, though no nest is actually constructed. These terns lay a single egg in a hollow or forked branch of a tree to incubate and raise a chick. Strong sharp claws and reduced webbing on their feet facilitate clutching the bare branch.
The statues represent the principal cities served by Chemin de Fer du Nord, the largest central figure representing Paris.
