From the top, an impressive plateau, it is possible to contemplate the entire city of Rio and its surroundings – it is possible to see the Sugar Loaf, Christ the Redeemer, the beaches of Copacabana, Ipanema, São Conrado and Barra da Tijuca, and even the mountains of Serra of the Organs. It's an unforgettable sight!

The Serra da Canastra region, in the southwest of Minas Gerais, has some of the most breathtaking and undiscovered landscapes in Brazil. For a long time, it was isolated by precarious dirt roads and only a few years ago it entered the travel itineraries as a privileged place for practicing extreme sports, environmental experience and ecological tourism.

Serra do Amolar in Pantanal is a place almost untouched by the hands of man. It is the last frontier of the Pantanal with an enormous natural wealth. Altogether, there are 80km of mountains spread over 300 thousand hectares between the states of Mato Grosso do Sul and Mato Grosso as well as Bolivia. Serra do Amolar in Pantanal is surely one of Brazil’s best kept secrets. One of the biggest challenges for the conservation of Serra do Amolar has happened in 2020, when 90% of Serra do Amolar was taken by fire. Many animals died and part of the vegetation remains charred to this day, as if to remind us of the dangers of environmental imbalance in this biome so dependent on rain cycles and so affected by human action. This picture is an aerial view from 2018, when I visited this stunning place.

Sao Miguel, Azores
A small, nameless lake in the Serra Devassa highlands in the west of the Azores island of São Miguel. The Serra Devassa region lies not far from the two lakes of Sete Cidades at an altitude of 700 to 800 meters. It is often shrouded in clouds, but this is precisely what makes the area, which is home to numerous crater lakes, particularly charming.

Florisuga fusca - Large and aggressive hummingbird. Mostly black with white flanks. Boldly patterned tail is white with a black center and a thin black terminal band. Both sexes are similar, but juveniles have cinnamon sides to the throat. Found in a variety of habitats including woodlands, forest edges, and plantations, foraging from the understory to the canopy.
