Philadelphia is one of the few American cities with an extended network of suburban railways. Silverliner IV No. 140 has just left 30th Street Station and will now cross the downtown in a long tunnel.

The Story: Amtrak's not the only player on the Northeast Corridor. Here's a SEPTA Regional Rail train heading north out the city, as the day comes to a close. Photographed from SEPTA's Tacony Station.

SEPTA 488, a former CTA 6000 series unit pulls away from what I think was Villanova PA in March 1`990.

Two of SEPTA's Sprinter units (913/909) make easy work of the 5 borrowed MARC cars. This set has been used on the Trenton express in the afternoon rush hour the past two days and now continues on its way after north departing Torresdale.

In its first full month of service, SEPTA AEM7 2304 pulls a Lansdale-bound train into North Wales, Pennsylvania. The Reading triangular signal and the cast-iron whistle post are now long-gone. The AEM7's didn't lead trains in this direction for very long.
