When I told a friend that I had lost the negative and print of this photo that is is important to me, she told me she had a paper print of it. When she sent me this copy, to my surprise, it was cropped tighter than the scan I have of another print.

The cornflower is my absolute favorite flower and I have been wanting to photograph one for a long time. I hope you like it!

The Cantuña Chapel houses a small art collection from the Quito School. It’s shrouded in one of Quito’s most famous legends, that of the indigenous builder Cantuña, who supposedly sold his soul so the devil would help him complete the church on time. Just before midnight on the day of his deadline, Cantuña removed a single stone from the structure, meaning the church was never completed. He duped the devil and saved his soul.

From the aesthetic point of view, the Chapel of Cantuña is a small church with a single vaulted nave, with protruding ribs and lunettes. On the presbytery, which with the ship forms a single body, rests a dome with a flashlight through which the light that fills all this space is filtered. In its back is the sacristy and, when entering the ship, a small choir that is reached through a ladder placed to the right of the entrance to the Chapel. Given its structural simplicity, the ambivalence between spatial organization and decoration is evident in Cantuña, which, as in the main church, has undergone profound transformations. The altarpiece of the main altar together with the pulpit constitute the most interesting decorative element of the space. Attributed to Bernardo de Legarda, his factory would be related to the enormous prestige achieved by the Brotherhood of the Virgen de los Dolores in the second half of the 18th century. In this altarpiece, characteristically baroque, there is a clear predominance of decorative elements over images; It is complemented by the magnificent group of Calvary (of which the Virgin of Sorrows is a part) placed in its central niche, also attributed to the master. Legarda carved the columns, cloths, frieze, cornice, arch, auction and dozens of exquisite ornamental elements. The niches and shelves are full of beautiful sculptures that are also his own; He finally completed the set giving the central niche a frame of mirrors and silver.

The Cantuña Chapel also houses Caspicara's works, including one of his masterpieces: the Impression of the San Francisco Sores, a harmonious and transient group of devout sentiment, whose culmination is the admirable expression of the Saint, abyssed in pain and illumination. No less impressive is the effigy of San Pedro de Alcántara, which for a long time was mistakenly attributed to Father Carlos.

Last beach shot for now. Seeing them makes me miss my daughters and Billy, the golden retriever. I have many shots of sand dollars, shells, and dune flowers.... but, I love this one most. Seems a fitting last shot of the series.

I've heard a few people express the sentiment that they're glad 2022 has come to an end. This line of thinking suggests that all of the bad things that happened over the past 12 months somehow had something to do with the year itself. By extension, this belief system clings to the hope that if we somehow manage to cross over into the new year, our futures will somehow brighten. However disappointment looms ahead as we soon discover the new year is just as bad as the last. It may come in a different flavor this year, but it will surely be the same old brand.

This probably sounds more fatalistic than I intended. I'm an optimist at heart. It's just that the turn of a new year causes inevitable reflection on the one just passed. More often than not, the emphasis tends to be on the negative aspects. Recognition of the warm and fuzzy moments tends to come over time. Often we don't fully appreciate them until they are long past, and only after a new reality comes to replace the one we had.

That said, each year tends to bring a different form of energy presenting a wide range of opportunities, possibilities and yes, complications In the end, it's all about what we make of them.

My son sent me a bunch of flowers for my 70th birthday so instead of throwing them all out when they have wilted I photographed my favourite one so it will last forever! I particularly love the green and pink colours, nature is wonderful, although it may have been bred to be that colour lol.

For just being you....Have a great weekend!

I'm basically a pacifist and do not support violence, but it seems to me that America is barreling toward some sort of internecine war and a complete breakup. There are too many fundamentally unworkable factors built into the constitution to permit going forward another hundred years. And as if that were not enough, we've watched the rich people and corporate entities capture the government to the detriment of the entire world.

I am thinking and I am frightened that we forget all about Love.

That comes time where we love Money and Sex,

that we forget tenderness, devotion, passion, sweetness, flattering heart, love pain.....

Whether we are still human being or some new Form that exists?

I don't know how I can name us?

do You?

The snow finally stopped late last night, leaving the city to wake up to something that looked a lot like a winter wonderland.

And just like that, the season changed. At least temporarily.

Oh well; at least it was a pretty sight. The majority of what fell yesterday has melted off, thankfully!

Anyway, hope everyone has had a good day.
