Like the Spirit of Love felt everywhere;

And each flower and herb on Earth's dark breast

rose from the dreams of its wintry rest.

The pattern of some of the complexities at the surface of west and southwest Oceanus Procellarum were at least partially laid bare by the sensitive GRAIL A and GRAIL B gravity probes in 2012. Though the exact boundaries and morphology of the vast nearside basalt flood plain are still poorly understood, it's now clear the Moon once had its own "Ring of Fire," less dynamic than what surrounds the Pacific Ocean on Earth, a 'squarish' border in the form of deep volcanic rift structures partially surrounds an enormous plate. The inset spotlights how this system of rifts may explain some of the surface faulting, unique mountains and lateral pressures under the Hevelius, Rimae Hevelius, and the pyroclastic vents near Lohrmann D, and the western boundary of Oceanus Procellarum [NASA/GSFC/SVS].
