Sensitive Plant along Capuchinbird Rd., 090216.

Some recent research on psychoacoustics noted just how amazingly sensitive to music the human ear is.... how many well-known songs, for example, can be recognized within the first 3 or 4 notes. And the fact that roughly half the population, when asked to sing a favorite song, can come within a half-tone of the correct pitch.

Evolutionary biology sees it as a residual skill from more primitive days... who knows?

Imagine my delight when I was listening to a cut on this (newly arrived, out of print import) CD and instantly recognized the organ chords as having been sampled from Traffic's John Barleycorn Must Die album. Been 35 years since I listened to it, though you do occasionally hear Low Spark of High Heeled Boys on the radio.

Wild.

Normally if you're driving down a road on a little spit of land between the sea and an estuary, and there was a sign like this, it would be because rare birds wer nesting, or orchids flowering that grow nowhere else. Not here. It's outside Redcar, and it's a site that used to be part of the Corus steelworks (formerly British Steel). It's real 'brownfield' land - land so poisoned by industry that it's dangerous. brendadada was telling us how the land can visibly move and shift, and actually burst into flames. We didn't see that, but we saw patches where the earth was steaming, and weird coloured grasses, and strange shapes grassed over. It can still support plantlife, but it's pretty much dead earth - there's nothing that can be done about it but leave it and hope it heals itself over time

Seen on our NC Native Plant Society's spring weekend in the mountains around Saluda. Saw lots of ferns, trilliums, beautiful scenery. and a couple of orchids. Magnificant weather & great company for the hikes.

This fern is sooooo cool!!!! You touch it and the whole branch(?) closes shut! (There is another picture with it closed.)

This image is one from a series 35 images. I decided to make most of them into a book where people can take time to immerse themselves in the colours and patterns created through symmetry. The collection is named sensitive as I based this on the question of are people with a sensitive personality more observant ? while my question is still unanswered I believe the book was a success as many spent as long as 20minuites looking through the book - Amy Barnes Date: November 2013
