Chiesa dei Santi Cerbone e Michele a Montorsaio - Parish Church of the Saints Cerbone and Michele in Montorsaio (Campagnatico, Grosseto Tuscany)
Montorsaio è quel piccolissimo paese sulla superstrada Siena Grosseto una quindicina di Km. prima di Grosseto sulla destra in cima ad una collina dominante la Maremma Grossetana. Di chiare origini medievali, il paese fu dominio di diverse famiglie senesi dopodiché nel secolo XIII passò sotto il diretto dominio di Siena che lo affidò alla famiglia Salimbeni la quale la mantenne fino alla fine del XIV secolo.
Tale affidamento della Repubblica di Siena venne esteso ad altre famiglie cittadine fino al 1555, anno della definitiva caduta della repubblica e passò nel Granducato di Toscana con tutti gli altri territori vicini.
Oggi ha non più di 100 abitanti ma mantiene le case in pietra dell'epoca e la sua struttura urbanistica medievale fatta di vicoli piccolissimi e stretti fra le case a testimonianza di un passato antico e una vita paesana tranquilla sulla splendido panorama della Maremma Grossetana.
Montorsaio is that tiny village on the Siena Grosseto highway about fifteen kilometers before Grosseto on the right on top of a hill overlooking the Maremma Grossetana. Of clear medieval origins, the village was under domain of several Sienese families after which in the thirteenth century it passed under the direct dominion of Republic of Siena which entrusted it to the Salimbeni family who kept it until the end of the fourteenth century.
This entrustment of the Republic of Siena was extended to other city families until 1555, the year of the definitive fall of the republic and passed into the Grand Duchy of Tuscany with all the other neighboring territories.
Today it has no more than 100 inhabitants but retains the stone houses of the past times and its medieval urban structure composed of tiny and narrow alleys between the houses as evidence of an ancient past and a peaceful village life on the splendid panorama of the Maremma Grossetana.

La Cattedrale di Massa Marittima è dedicata a S. Cerbone, Vescovo di Populonia dal 570 al 573, Patrono della città. La sua edificazione risale ai primi anni dell’XI secolo, ma ha subito nel tempo una serie di radicali ristrutturazioni.
Dapprima costruita in stile romanico ebbe ampliamenti successivi a opera di Giovanni Pisano nel 1267 con un terzo ordine di colonne ornate da tre guglie.
L'interno della cattedrale è strutturato in forma di basilica latina, è diviso in tre navate da due file di colonne con capitelli diversi uno dall'altro; nella navata sinistra, in un angolo, si trova il Fonte Battesimale opera di Giroldo da Como del 1267. Nella cappella minore della navata destra si conserva una preziosissima tavola su cui è mirabilmente dipinta la Madonna delle Grazie, opera di Duccio di Buoninsegna (m. 1318) e, dietro la Madre di Dio, si vedono scene della Passione su frammenti di tavola.
Nella parete della cappella minore della navata di destra sono esposti i resti di una tavola di Sano di Pietro (1406-1481) trafugata nel 1922, tutti quanti recuperati e restituiti
Ma il monumento più interessante di questa bella cattedrale è l'Arca di San Cerbone, oggi posta dietro l'altar maggiore su due sostegni; costruita da Goro di Gregorio nel 1324 è ornata da bassorilievi che illustrano la vita del Santo, discepolo di San Regolo e nato in Africa alla fine del V secolo e venne in Maremma dove si dette a vita eremitica.
The Cathedral of Massa Marittima is dedicated to S. Cerbone, Bishop of Populonia from 570 to 573, Patron of the town. Its construction dates back to the early 11th century, but it has undergone a series of radical renovations over time.
Initially built in Romanesque style, it was later enlarged by Giovanni Pisano in 1267 with a third order of columns decorated with three spiers.
The interior of the cathedral is structured in the form of a Latin basilica, it is divided into three naves by two rows of columns with capitals different from each other; in the left aisle, in a corner, is the Baptismal Font by Giroldo da Como from 1267. In the minor chapel of the right aisle there is a very precious panel on which the Madonna delle Grazie is admirably painted, by Duccio di Buoninsegna (d. 1318) and, behind the Mother of God, scenes from the Passion can be seen on fragments of wood.
On the wall of the minor chapel in the right aisle are the remains of a panel by Sano di Pietro (1406-1481) stolen in 1922, all of which were recovered and returned
But the most interesting monument of this beautiful cathedral is the Ark of San Cerbone, today placed behind the high altar on two supports; built by Goro di Gregorio in 1324, it is decorated with bas-reliefs illustrating the life of the Saint, a disciple of San Regolo and born in Africa; at the end of the 5th century he came to Maremma where he gave himself up as a hermitic.

Un sol muy fuerte y luminoso me acompaña en la sesión pintando al aire libre en el Concurs de Pintura de LA SENIA, tonos contrastados debido al exceso de luminosidad solar, el cuadro gusta mucho a los paseantes y me prometen el primer premio, les pregunto si forman parte del jurado porque eso sería importante para consolidar sus vaticinios, he querido pintar este paisaje querido pintar el campanario de la iglesia con la Font Vella y las calles que salen de la misma plaza, los árboles y las personas, formando una imagen muy representativa del pueblo, pinturas de los pueblos de Tarragona en sus esencias paisajistas. Fotos del artista pintor Ernest Descals trabajando la obra.
