I won a www.myspace.com/viiphoto and my porfolio was reviewed for free by Joachim Ladefoged on Sunday, the day after the seminar. after seeing my photos he said: you should work as a photographer. BANG!
My presentation was titled "Breaking Barriers: Open Trans Military Service"
Here's the synopsis and bio that went with it:
While other countries have allowed transgender individuals to serve openly for years, the United States has lagged far behind. Important first steps have already been taken including the development of gender-neutral standards, the opening of all combat positions to women, and a halt on discharges of currently serving transgender Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, and Marines. This workshop explores the recent history of policy changes underway at the Department of Defense allowing open service of transgender individuals and the implications of those changes. The workshop will include a short video that explores the challenges of transgender servicemembers until today, a summary of recent events, information about the drivers behind the policy changes, and thoughts about the future. The presentation will be followed by a Q&A session with a panel of currently serving trans servicemembers.
Major Bree Wagner is an active duty astronautical engineer in the US Air Force currently serving at the Pentagon. She is responsible for preparing the 5-year Air Force budget for space programs, an over $40 billion enterprise. She recently completed a fellowship at the US Capitol working for a member of the House Armed Services Committee. Previous assignments include multiple tours as a program manager for satellite and technology programs and a deployment as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Bree is also the Policy Committee Chair of SPART*A Trans, an organization advocating for open transgender service and dedicated to the support and professional development of its over 400 transgender servicemembers.
I like to take classes to keep up on what's going on in the photoworld. When I told people I was going to a boudoir seminar I got lots of different reactions. I have a number of women who are pregnant, young and old that like having their picture taken to their "advantage," so I figured why not? It was free, was only a couple of hours of my time, close to my home, and I figured a good way to network with other women photographers (more about that)...I threw in my camera when I saw that there would be a model.
The lighting was interesting...Everything from strobes (my favorite and what I use) to an industrial hot light from Home Depot (for $25) There are always ways to work around light issues that don't break the bank.
Inexpensive red velvet curtains made an ideal back drop.
I jumped at the chance when it was offered to come up to the stage and take a few shots of the model...The crazy thing is that in a crowd of a 100 or so, that there were only a few women. I seemed to be the only woman with a camera. There was a crowd on the stage and not too many opportunities to get a good shot without the back of some mans head. Finally I heard someone say...
"Hey, why not let the little lady up front for a few shots"
I can be fast when I need to...I honestly think the model was relieved when I posed her.
I wanted to give this a very Hollywood fifties look with the black and white.
There was a reward: It turned out to be my lucky night...Not only did I get a spiffy SmugMug baseball cap but I won a $75 gift card at a lab (Wahoo)...But no chance to network with the women...sigh,maybe next time.
(For those interested, this was taken with the big orange industrial light from Home Depot that they set up. It seemed too harsh to me, so I had to adjust the color and contrast.)
Chitral Youth Club held Peace Seminar.

CHITRAL: Chitral Youth Club (CYC) held peace seminar under youth Micro challenge award program by exchanging employability & Leadership for youth at Town hall Chitral. Seminar was started with the recitation from the Holy Quran while a student of 2nd year presented Naath Sharif. Addressing on the occasion the speakers said that peace is the only path for development and no nation can develop without peace. They said that Islam also stressed upon peace and that is why Islam termed a Muslim from whose hand and mouth other people are safe. They stressed upon the youth to maintain exemplary peace of Chitral at each cost. Intellectuals delivered speeches on the topic of peace. They termed that Peace, justices; tolerance and respect to each other are best obligations and real worship. Peace disturbed due to individual differences, discrimination, cultural difference, and clash of interest, social changes and sometimes after scientific development. There
is difference between peace keeping and peacemaking. They also hailed efforts of Chitral Youth Club who working since 2009 for maintaining peace in Chitral and won Award in a competition with youth of Gilgit Baltistan province. The speakers strongly condemned terrorism in the country causing for killing of innocent people including women and children. They said that other nation reached to Mars but we fighting with each other on a very pity issue causing for weakening us . They said that we never develop until promoting and keeping peace environment in our surrounding. Peace seminar was supported by Aga Khan Rural Support Program, CCDN, Canada International Development Agency EELY. Those who spoke on the occasion were Muhammad Alamgir of AFAQ, Sarwar Suroor president CYC, Khalid Bini Wali Excise and Taxation Officer, Syedul Abrar, Abdul Qayum, Miss Samina of AKRSP and other. A large number of youth including women folk participated in the seminar.

Seminario menor de Valladolid. En el año 1956, la Universidad de Valladolid, pasó a interesarse por los terrenos que ocupaba el Seminario Mayor de la calle de Sanz y Forés por la proximidad a la Facultad de Medicina y al Hospital Provincial con la intención de edificar allí nuevas instalaciones universitarias. Para ello, el 19 de julio el Rector de ella, ofrece al arzobispo García Goldáraz una permuta del terreno del Seminario por una finca propiedad de la Universidad denominada "Ribera de Leca" y del edificio a medio construir del Colegio Mayor "Felipe II", cuyas obras llevaban paralizadas siete años, y que se encontraba próxima al Seminario Menor". Una vez aceptado el trato, comenzaron a surgir imnumerables problemas de tipo administrativo que retrasaron el acontecimiento de la permuta cuatro arios, lo que provocaba la impaciencia del Arzobispo que mostraba sus quejas en multitud de cartas enviadas a todos los ministerios relacionados con el tema, llevándose a la práctica, finalmente, el 24 de noviembre de 1961.
Una vez efectuada la permuta de terrenos, había que reiniciar las obras del Colegio Mayor "Felipe II", que, como se ha dicho, llevaban siete arios paralizadas según el proyecto original realizado el ario 1941 por el arquitecto Constantino Candeira Pérez. La continuación de la obra y su adaptación para Seminario fue dirigida el año 1962 por los arquitectos Isaías Paredes Sanz y Angel Ríos Gómez con un presupuesto de 44.848.411 pts. Para recaudar esta cantidad, el Arzobispado recurrió a todo tipo de colectas. Así, el 24 de febrero de 1963 el Arzobispo exhorta con "una apremiente llamada a favor del nuevo Seminario Mayor".
El 1 de marzo del mismo año se inicia la primera campaña "pro-seminario" consistente en premiar con un viaje a Lourdes al muchacho o muchacha que más limosnas recogiera a favor del Seminario. Aún así, el día 8 del mismo mes, el mismo periódico publicaba que la conservación de ambos seminarios, Menor y Mayor, hacía que los gastos se disparasen y que, debido a ello, lo que aportaban los alumnos no cubría el 40% del presupuesto y las ayudas recibidas hasta ese momento sólamente llegaban al 50% de dicho presupuesto. Debido a la insuficiencia de medios económicos, el 14 de marzo del mismo ario se inició una campaña de repartición de sobres por las casas de la ciudad que serían posteriormenre recogidos por "algunas señoras" provistas de tarjeta-autorización, pues surgieron algunos desaprensivos que pasaban a recogerles sin tener nada que ver en el asunto, mientras que en los barrios de Delicias, Rubia, Pajarillos y Pilarica eran recogidos por miembros de la J.O.C. Sin embargo, la campaña más eficaz fue la iniciada el 13 de marzo de ese mismo año de 1963 y que se denominó "campaña de celdas": esta consistió en que cada persona que quisiera colaborar en la construcción del edificio debería pagar 10.000 ptas por cada celda o habitación que quisiera. Con ello, se construirían las 224 celdas de los Seminaristas además de la Capilla y utensilios de culto, Biblioteca, Salón de Actos con sus accesorios (butacas, escenario...), Sala de Visitas, Sala de Recreo para los días de lluvia, Hogares de Seminaristas, Secretaría de Estudios, Aulas, Sala de Música, Utensilios de Enfermería, Gabinete de Física y Química, y Museo de Historia Natural. Como recuerdo peremne, cada celda o departamento llevaría en su exterior el nombre del misterio del Señor, de privilegio o advocación de la Virgen que eligiera el donante así como su nombre, cartela que las habitaciones continuan conservando en la actualidad.
A todas estas aportaciones se unieron 8.000.000 que aportó el Cabildo de la Catedral y 20.000.000 que dio la Santa Sede. Al mismo tiempo el Gobernador General del Banco de España hizo un préstamo de 20.000.000 de pts. añadiendo el Ministro de Justicia que además habría que dedicar más cantidad de dinero para la "inacabada catedral herreriana". Finalmente, y con las facilidades que dio la empresa "Agromán" para el pago de 9.000.000 de pts. la obra fue finalizada y el edificio inaugurado solemnemente el 3 de mayo del año 1965 con la asistencia del Prefecto de la sagrada Congregación de Ritos, Cardenal Lacarra, y del Ministro de Justicia, Señor Iturmendy, como ya era habitual. Su arquitectura obedece al estilo "escurialense" que fue rescatado en los primeros años del Régimen de Franco como símbolo de "arquitectura imperial", cuyo principal exponente es el Ministerio del Aire de Madrid en el cual el Seminario está claramente inspirado. La fachada consta de tres torreones, uno en cada extremo y otro en el centro. En alzado muestra semisótano, planta baja, entreplanta, cuatro plantas más y ático. En el ario 1970 se vio ampliado por laboratorios, aseos y sala de juegos. Finalmente, la primera planta se vio alterada en el año 1976 al ser adaptada para aulas del Seminario Menor que vendría a ocupar el mismo edificio junto con el Mayor al disminuir el número de seminaristas de ámbos, aspecto que presenta en la actualidad.
En la actualidad alberga el Colegio Mayor de Castilla y León.

Left to right - Me, PK (Pickled Kidney), Patric Roft and the late Alan Pennington. We had a long weekend in Jersey, ostensibly to try out the HS146s that were flying there at the time, the return flight went 'tech' and was replaced ny a 1-11. Hurrah!
Actually turned out to be more of a lost weekend as I don't recall much of it! Then, that's why we take pictures, eh?
