The June 2025 Strawberry Moon is the lowest moonrise on the horizon since 2006. This is due to a major lunar standstill - a pattern that occurs every 18.6 years when the moon sets and rises at its most northern and southern points on the horizon. It appears even larger than a Super Moon & won’t reoccur until 2043.
I especially liked the cloudy skies & a whiff of smoke from an early fire (for this time of year) in the Columbia Gorge/Dalles/Oregon area added some nice drama to this photo for me.

On a warm August afternoon, CSXT #8233 (built in 1977 as L&N #3605) heads into the auto yard to put together some empties. Unfortunately, with the bridge being taken down, view's like this are just a thing of the past.

The Lord Selkirk II first sailed the Red River on June 7, 1969, carrying 130 passengers and 40 crew. Over a 17 year period many dignitaries and countless numbers of people enjoyed cruising the Red River and destinations throughout Lake Winnipeg. Over the years though business declined and the Lord Selkirk’s final voyage took place in 1990.
For the past 25 years the ship has remained at the end of a small channel of water off the Red River at Selkirk MB. The years of abandonment and a fire have destined the ship to salvage. Soon SaskSteel, a salvage company from Saskatchewan, will dismantle and remove the ship from its current resting place.
