Where is life's reset switch?

#autopilot #selfreflection #muz4now⠀

.⠀

The cruise control in my automobile has these nifty little buttons that automatically adjust or maintain the speed of the car. A few days ago, I was waiting for a stoplight. I guess it had been a long day because I looked down at the controls on the steering wheel and thought, "Yeah, that would be nice to have a reset switch right now!"⠀

Obviously, I had seen what I wanted to see. When I got home, I took a photo of the controls to remind me of that moment. It's then that I discovered none of the buttons or switches says "Reset". There is an "Off" button, a "Res" (for resume) button, and a "Set" on the switch that performs several functions.⠀

In a few days, I'll expand this Instagram post into a full blog story so that you can learn about my takeaways from this moment...⠀

In my three reflections photos I chose to do both a literal and conceptual theme. This picture is of me but I am split into two pieces. Most the time I feel like I live two different lives. Whether it be between work and school, 23 or old married woman, or grown up or young. I felt like I was successful at representing this.

"Crimson Soliloquy," my intention was to capture a moment of profound introspection and the complex interplay of light and emotion within a confined space. This piece explores the feeling of being simultaneously exposed and isolated, enveloped by an environment that seems to both embrace and overwhelm. The dominant, rich crimson hue of the foreground and surrounding space creates a visceral, almost emotional saturation, drawing the viewer into an intimate world.

The figure, illuminated by strong backlighting from a large window or light source, sits in a contemplative pose, their eyes closed or cast downwards, suggesting a deep internal moment. The stark contrasts between light and shadow, particularly the way the light illuminates their legs and body while their face remains partially obscured, emphasize the introspective nature of the scene. The distressed texture of the wall on the left adds a raw, vulnerable quality, hinting at imperfections or a history of wear. It's about the beauty in vulnerability, the power of personal reflection, and the way light can sculpt an emotional landscape within a simple setting.

Self-reflection and introspection have been the main basis to this last selfie album, Things You Can Have. Over the course of this semester I have been instructed to reflect a lot on myself and the things I desire, all while in class learning about thinking and looking at things from a different point of view. An understanding on the fact that everyone thinks and views things differently can completely change a person and how they react to things throughout their life. This is something that I have gotten away from in this class, and happens to be something I am trying to work on doing in my own life. I have greatly enjoyed this class because I feel it has helped me open my third eye more in multiple ways. I knew I was going walk away from this class with some new knowledge, but I didn’t expect it to be this impacting and relatable to what I am going through in my individual life.

Is emotional safety helping us—or quietly limiting how deeply we feel?

In this short, reflective monologue, Sindy explores the tension between emotional safety and emotional depth. While protection and boundaries matter, some emotions only emerge when there’s risk involved.

A calm reflection on vulnerability, feeling, and modern emotional life.

SCRIPT:

Emotional safety matters.

Being protected.

Being respected.

Not being exposed unnecessarily.

But safety also narrows the range

of what we’re willing to feel.

We learn to stay measured.

To speak carefully.

To avoid emotions

that might make things messy

or unpredictable.

And over time,

depth can start to fade—

not because we feel less,

but because we allow ourselves

less room to go there.

Some emotions only exist

when there’s risk involved.

Love that could be lost.

Honesty that could cost something.

Emotional safety protects us.

But emotional depth

often asks

what we’re willing to feel

without guarantees.
