Listen..

My dog, Emmy, has very expressive eyes. It has been just a little over a year since I adopted her from a high-kill shelter. Now I can't imagine life without her!

"A person can learn alot from a dog, even a loopy one like ours. Marley taught me about living each day with unbridled exuberance and joy, about seizing the moment and following your heart. He taught me to appreciate simple things - a walk in the woods, a fresh snowfall, a nap in a shaft of winter sunlight. And as he grew old and achy, he taught me about optimism in the face of adversity. Mostly, he taught me about friendship and selflessness and, above all else, unwavering loyalty."

~ John Grogan

I have been experiencing computer woes and am beginning to suspect the Flickr site itself. Hopefully, I can figure out what's going on soon, because my Flickr friends and their images are a great tonic for me and they help me appreciate all the goodness and beauty in the world - thank you all, Flickr friends!!!

“Sometimes, reaching out and taking someone's hand is the beginning of a journey.

At other times, it is allowing another to take yours.”

― Vera Nazarian, The Perpetual Calendar of Inspiration

At times we feel outnumbered in our attempts to improve the world—to brighten and beautify, to preserve and heal and do what’s best for humanity. Selfless efforts can start to feel beleaguering, discouraging, even pointless with so little support. It is at these times I remind myself that I would rather be the last Good Samaritan standing than to join the ranks of selfish multitudes creating misery.

We all need someone to reach out to occasionally and nowadays, we feel the need to be greater in times of distress, to find comfort, solace and happiness in the company of someone who we have known for a long time and get along with. That's the beauty of SL, a true 'unity in diversity' that we can connect with so many like-minded individuals who brighten our day up.

Sergius of Radonezh founded near Moscow Trinity Monastery (now it is the Trinity-Sergius Lavra), did much for the Russian church. Holy dearly loved his motherland and a lot of effort put on to help his people survive all the disasters. On the life of the Reverend, we know thanks to the manuscripts of his associates and disciples. Work Epiphanius the Wise called "The Life of St. Sergius of Radonezh," written by him at the beginning of the XV century, is a valuable source of information about the life of the saint.

It is known that he lived to old age. Lying on his deathbed, he gave his disciples exhortation: "have the fear of God" and give people "purity of soul and love unhypocritical." Sergius of Radonezh, died September 25, 1392. Buried it in the Trinity Cathedral.

One of the most venerated saints in Russia since ancient times considered Sergius of Radonezh. His biography is replete with facts selfless service to God. He dedicated many temples. Only in Moscow they number 67. Even the overseas - Temple of St. Sergius of Radonezh in Johannesburg in South Africa and the monastery of St. Sergius of Radonezh in the city of Rumija in Montenegro.

MISS SL ♛ Colombia writes that just as important as breathing is so is her family to her. A strong foundation for any individual comes from being with a supportive family!

As for her, it's been two years since she hasn't been home and there are moments when she feels homesick and miss her family. Yet all the selfless love, support, and encouragement from her mother and father help her cope with homesickness and reminds her to overcome the obstacle on her journey towards her goals and to never give up!

She writes, being a daughter itself is a responsibility which she fulfills by taking a stand for her family and making her loved ones happy in every way possible.

This song inspires MISS SL ♛ Colombia because she portraits herself as Mulan, a great worrier who, with the love and support of her family not only overcomes the obstacles on her path but also fulfills her responsibility as a daughter.

This photograph depicts the magnanimous, incorrigible and selfless relation between a mother and a child. Humans or Animals, this is the purest of all the relations that have ever existed.

This actually is a re-post. Unsatisfied with the processing, I deleted the old picture from Flickr, added a crop and drama; uploaded it again. Enjoy!

The bodhissattva Avalokiteshvara

Avalokiteshvara is the Buddhist Lord of Compassion. He is a bodhissattva , an enlightened being who has selflessly chosen to remain in the earthly realm to help others attain spiritual liberation. In Tibet, the Dalai Lama is believed to be his incarnation. Here, Avalokiteshvara's right hand is the varadamudra gesture of charity. His left hand is empty but may have held a lotus stalk, a symbol of purity. The figure was made in gilded bronze in several pieces - rivets above the waist and above the elbows hold it together. Judging by the fine quality of the metalwork it was probably made by Newar craftsmen from the Kathmandu Valley whose skills were in great demand across Nepal, Tibet and China.

Finally, NEOJAPAN, the shopping event where high quality designer gather, is about to begin. Is everyone ready?

Last year, I participated as a guest designer, and I remember how selflessly I created the products.

This time I will participate as a regular designer. I am honored and grateful.

Let's all enjoy this big event with over 100 high quality designer stores!

9 aligns with Universal love, Universal Spiritual Laws, Spiritual Awakening and Enlightenment, Service to Mankind, and Humanitarianism.

9 is also a number for those who live and lead in life by positive and soulful example. Making a positive impact in the world is a priority with a sense of selflessness.

9 vibrates your desire to live a purposeful life.

9 is SOUL mission work (you have to do what is your purpose). In other words , can not not do the work your soul is yearning for you to do!

9 is living with higher perspective, and tapping into your intuition and strength of character.

Not everybody gets the same version of me. One person might tell you I'm incredibly caring, selfless and logical! Another person will say I'm cold, inconsiderate and impulsive. Believe them both. I act accordingly.

#6 of a series.

Another autumn shot from my recent trip to Mount Lofty Botanics in the Adelaide Hills in South Australia.

I want to dedcate this to Saffron Blaze. Saffron decided yesterday to remove his Flickr account. Not only have we lost his numerous amazing photographs but we have lost an ally of Flickr who tirelessly made efforts to help many of us understand Flickr, explore, search optimisation, tagging etc etc etc - the list goes on and on.

He did this so diligently and completely selflessly. In the end the negative responses he appeared to be getting from the Flickr management were too much. He left a wordpress note "Flickr staff made it clear they find me more of a problem than a help and I find them less than honest. When you are effectively banned from major areas of a site, either through neglect or design, it makes no sense to continue to participate in such an enterprise."

All of us who knew him (albeit virtually) recognise his unbelievable efforts to help others through the flickr help forum and many flickr groups discussions. New and blossoming photographers to Flickr will now miss out on a guide and mentor. It is a sad day.

I suppose everyone has a personal definition of this phrase...shine you light. For me personally it is giving of yourself selflessly without an expectation of return. But you know if you let your's shine...it always returns upon itself.

It's Christmas time, there's no need to be afraid

At Christmas time, we let in light and we banish shade

And in our world of plenty we can spread a smile of joy

Throw your arms around the world at Christmas time

But say a prayer, Pray for the other ones

At Christmas time it's hard, but when you're having fun

There's a world outside your window

And it's a world of dread and fear

Where the only water flowing

Is the bitter sting of tears

And the Christmas bells that ring

There are the clanging chimes of doom

Well tonight thank God it's them instead of you

And there won't be snow in Africa this Christmas time

The greatest gift they'll get this year is life

Where nothing ever grows

No rain nor rivers flow

Do they know it's Christmas time at all?

Here's to you

Raise a glass for everyone

Spare a thought this yuletide for the deprived

If the table was turned would you survive

Here's to them

Underneath that burning sun

You ain't gotta feel guilt just selfless

Give a little help to the helpless

Do they know it's Christmas time at all?

Feed the world

There are angels among us, beautiful souls that shines and spread happiness to the weary.

There are angels within us, that extend love and care to one another freely.

As human as we can be, it is a blessing to find others with these angelic qualities.

That doesn't mean that we are free from sadness, it just mean that despite our own woes, we are still able to show empathy.

I am blessed, to be surrounded by beautiful, kind, loving and selfless people..

Thank you, Bina, Ketlin, Siri, Kiki, Bana, Autumn, Lori and many more, known and unknown to me..(while not all are in this picture, you are with me, in my heart)

You touched me, in so many ways and I am forever thankful.

WHY WORRY - DIRE STRAITS

Hello everyone. I hope you are all well. I am 11 days into my self-isolation. I am doing fine. Had some pain in my left lung for a couple of days and some palpitations, but have been singing trying to clear it and seems to be working. Slept much better last night and actually had a day without dozing off, filled with sunshine, cats and an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for all the blessings bestowed on me. Thanking God for all the people who are looking out for me. I don't feel alone or lonely. How can I be lonely with 8 cats surrounding me with love anyway! : 0) I spend a lot of time in solitude, retreating from the world in times of illness and/or mental anguish (the two seem often to go hand in hand). This is my norm. The clocks have sprung forward 1 hour, so it is actually still sunny daylight out there, but a freezing cold wind has whipped up from the North, so I came indoors. Take care everyone. I recorded a song today and am playing around with snippets of video taken in my gardens. Hope to upload it soon. Love to you all. Stay hopeful, my friends xxxxx

Paint a Rainbow with your smile

let Hope form wings and let it fly

help each other; the extra mile

may save a life not let one die

colour the world with good not bad

keep your distance but deep inside

hold those you love close to your heart

to keep them safe we must abide

the birds still sing and so do I

blessed are my gardens; a heaven outside

safely cloistered behind these walls

the world in chaos; let peace reside

in our hearts and souls as one

minds in unison; wheels within wheels

since this crisis first begun

Clap for Carers; the ones who heal

eight o'clock every night

stand outside and smile and wave

clap hands together and set the world alight

for kindred spirits and the brave

our world has changed beyond recognition

we must adapt so we survive

let our plans come to fruition

beat this disease so we can thrive

I've never seen so many neighbours

in the village there is a Hub

caring for others their selfless labours

include me in their beautiful club

a lot of them don't even know me

but still they ask me what I need

I'm on the inside but they are free

I hope one day I will be freed

at the moment it's not so bad

I have my cats, my gardens and you

I try very hard not to be sad

but I miss my friends and family too

It's not the same to virtually see them

I cannot get a hug or kiss

I know it's not just me that is condemned

to live this new way, but still I miss

the freedom and the privilege

of walking to the shops

all those things we take for granted

I was living in a bubble but now it's popped

but I still have oodles of imagination

can paint a rainbow with my smile

I hope you like my funky creation

Unicorns will never EVER go out of style! ; 0)

I just love these little bugs ... They just go selflessly about their business (but my they are quick)! Everyone, have a wonderful new week!

Thanks for stopping by and for leaving me a comment, always appreciated!

Empathy is God's gift to each of us. For with empathy we are lead in love to embrace our brothern whom are hurting, depressed, suicidal, mentally ill, abused, bereaved, hungered and despaired. Aye, the pain that echoes in bellowing screams is strangling our society. It doesn't take much but a warm heart of compassion and selflessness to take hold of one in need. This is our charge for with one another we grow. We strengthen. We heal.

If you are one that feels low in spirit, health or struggle with the above mentioned. Please know you are not alone. You are valued. You are loved. You are stronger than the obstacles before you. Help is always available. Your life has purpose and you will always be missed. Take hold of that friend, counselor, relative or what ever resource that stands within your grasp. There is hope and again I say, you are not alone.

My prayers, shoulder and ear I extend to you.

Relax! Just a little fun in response to my friend Matt's photo here.

It's dark in the morning. Only the lanterns

Light the way for the occasional traveler.

They burn, and from night to dawn

Accompany us in the darkness of the night.

They stand, shivering from the cold,

And give us light in the pitch-black darkness.

And they, too, have a lantern soul,

Exhausted by the sadness of hopelessness.

The lantern stands, and each of us

It sees off with a secret hope,

That we'll come back, and more than once

Look at the lantern with a gentle smile.

Confess to me, has any of us

Thought about lanterns even once?

And he saved us from the darkness more than once,

Relentless and so brave.

It's dark in the morning. Only the lanterns

Light the earth for us selflessly,

And what's inside the lantern's soul

No one will ever know.

Thank you for your kind visit. Have a wonderful and beautiful day! ❤️❤️❤️

"You want to make all being thinkable, for you doubt with well-founded suspicion that it is already thinkable. But it shall become smooth and serve the spirit as its mirror and reflection. That is your whole will, you who are wisest: a will to power- when you speak of good and evil too, and of valuations. You will want to create the world before which you can kneel: that is your ultimate hope and intoxication.

The unwise, of course, the people- they are like a river on which a bark drifts; and in the bark sit the valuation, solemn and muffled up. Your will and your valuation you have placed on the river of becoming; and what the people believe to be good and evil, that betrays to me an ancient will to power.

It was you who are wisest who placed such guests in this bark and gave them pomp and proud names- you and your dominant will. Now the river carries your bark farther; it has to carry it. It avails nothing that the broken wave foams and angrily opposes the keel. Not the river is your danger and the end of your good and evil, you who are wisest, but that will itself, the will to power- the unexhausted procreative will of life."

Pursuant to the discussion on selfless love that occurred on the previous post, I found this passage from Nietzsche's Zarathustra, quite relevant. After setting the introduction on how human's will to power defines the hierarchy of his world and value systems, he follows by dividing people into those who obey and those who command, by putting all the pressure and responsibility on those who command. He brings the point home by stating that even those who obey have the will to become masters one day and this cycle which he calls "the unexhausted procreative will of life" is inevitable because it forms undeniably the core of human nature. Our Rumi poetically mirrors this psychological insight into saying, "All beings pursue their own internal obligations."

Life is short, make it sweet!

I have to fix fence, clean out the chicken coop and chop wood. I will find joy in all these tasks especially when they're done and I can go sit in the hot tub and watch the geese fly over ;-)

Have you ever noticed people who are glowing and effervescent? They are magnetic and simply command a room. What is it about them that is so irresistible? Their charm, personality, self-assurance? I admire sincere and genuine people who really do act selflessly and aim to serve others. What traits do you admire in others that you strive to embrace in your own life?

Ruigoord.

Former churchbuilding, nowadays used as a room for exhibitions and cultural activities..

Ruigoord (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈrœyxoːrt]) is a village in the Houtrakpolder in the Dutch province of North Holland, situated within the municipality of Amsterdam. Until the 1880s, it was an island in the IJ bay, which turned into a polder. The village is nowadays partially closed in by the Port of Amsterdam, and lies about 8 km east of Haarlem.[1]

In the 1960s the village was evacuated by the municipality of Amsterdam, which intended to extend its harbour, but the plans fell through. In 1973 the village was squatted by a group of artists who planned to make a colony there. As such it exists to this day, but is legalized nowadays. Full moon parties are regularly organised in the formerly Roman Catholic village church and every year there is the Landjuweel (Land Jewel) festival in August.

Since the early 2000s, the village has staged an annual poetry festival over the Whitsun weekend, Vurige tongen (Fiery Tongues). One of the festival's three days is always devoted to international poets. From 2003 on, a yearly Ruigoord Trophy has been awarded to individuals who have selflessly dedicated themselves to maintaining the village as an important cultural stronghold. The first such trophy was presented to Simon Vinkenoog. Three notable non-Dutch trophy holders are the late American poet and photographer Ira Cohen, the Canada-born writer Jordan Zinovich, and the Amsterdam-based American poet and writer Eddie Woods.

I woke early this Friday morning here in Australia to a view of rain and leaden skies. Fitting and appropriate indeed as I listened with heavy heart to the radio news of the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

I am British by birth but no Royalist. However, I do have great respect for her as perhaps the 'ultimate public servant'; her quiet dignity, selflessness and unwavering dedication.

She has been a constant and an anchor throughout all of my life and now as her life and passing becomes part of the great annals of history and time, I know she will be sorely missed by many far and wide.

May she rest in peace.

An attempt to embed Puccini's Tosca in my self-written poem. The content of the work doesn’t represent my well-being ... I am drinking a gin tonic and "flirting only slightly with death" - smoking :) ...

Hope you will enjoy it ...

Cheers, Bes

E Lucevan El Stelle (Tosca) - embedded in my self written poem:

True love requires the great art of daring to dream awake with open eyes, to use the gentle wings of the imagination as a brush and the grey and desolate façades and streets as a canvas to clothe them anew with bright colours, to give them beautiful, gentle forms - to float with their lightness, to float a dark night on silver shining clouds under the bluish shimmering warm moonlight. To reach places and labyrinths where space and time dissolve.

However, true love is not readily accessible. She is the little sister of the soulless fear-demon, who stands protectively in front of her when an eager soul comes too close to her little sister.

"As proof of your true desire, I demand of you the courage - you must summon to prove your worthiness" she thunders menacingly. As proof she demands fearless, unconditional and selfless willingness to run with passion into her open knives. She invites you to an unequal duel on a cold and dark stage of a brutal dramaturgy where you meet your merciless antagonist who will not forgive any mistake or naivety. She is powerful, prosecutor and judge at the same time.

And if you lose the bitter fight, she will ask you as punishment in a mild but authoritative voice to turn your back on her and close your eyes. Then she will whisper lovingly and reassuringly "I won't kill you right away, I'll let your life escape slowly" and in the same breath ram a knife into your back, piercing your heart.

The deep pain pierces the whole soul

The limbs slacken, the body is one with the earth

The fear-demon applauds... and shouts in a rush of joy “Coda!!!!” (Final act in opera)

The pupils close with dignity like a heavy dark blood-red curtain after a stage performance

The song, conducted by memory, sung by the pain of lost love resounds deeply melancholy to pay its last respects.

Now you are a passive spectator of your own tragedy, listening to a music that was staged just for you:

Bes

"And the stars were shining

And the earth was smelling

The orchard gate creaked

And a footstep grazed the sand

She entered, fragrant

She fell into my arms

Oh, sweet kisses, oh, languid caresses

While trembling, I stripped the beautiful form of its veils!

My dream of love has vanished forever

The hour has passed and I die in despair!

And I have never loved life so much before!"

It's been dark since morning. Only the lanterns

The road is illuminated for random travelers.

They burn, and from night to dawn

We are accompanied in the dark of the night.

They stand shivering from the cold,

And they give us light in the pitch darkness

And they also have a lantern soul,

Exhausted by hopeless sadness.

There is a lantern, and each of us

He sees me off with secret hope,

That we will come back, and more than once

Let's look at the lantern with a gentle smile.

Admit it to me, at least one of us

Have you ever thought about lanterns?

And he saved us from the darkness more than once,

Tireless and so brave.

It's been dark since morning. Only the lanterns

They selflessly illuminate the earth for us,

And what's inside the lantern in the shower

No one will probably ever find out......

One of the chief obstacles to this perfection of selfless charity, is the selfish anxiety to get the most out of everything, to be a brilliant success in our own eyes and in the eyes of other men. We can only get rid of this anxiety by being content to miss something in almost everything we do. We cannot master everything, taste everything, understand everything, drain every experience to its last dregs. But if we have the courage to let almost everything else go, we will probably be able to retain the one thing necessary for us -whatever it may be. If we are too eager to have everything, we will almost certainly miss even the one thing we need.

Happiness consists in finding out precisely what the ‘one thing necessary’ may be, in our lives, and in gladly relinquishing all the rest. For then, by a divine paradox, we find that everything else is given us together with the one thing we needed.

-Thomas Merton, No Man is an Island

This spring, a Little Grebe turned up in my neighbourhood. I spotted it a few weeks ago already, but I’ve only just managed to take images from a closer distance. It put on its breeding plumage, but as far as I can tell, it’s still on its own. I hope it finds a mate. My wish isn’t entirely selfless, mind you. Perhaps I’ll get some photos of little Little Grebes later on? 😇

Little grebes aren’t actually that rare, but because they’re so tiny, they’re often overlooked and it’s difficult to fill the frame with them. Anyone who reads this blog will know that this is one of my ongoing photography projects: In my Little Grebe Album you can track how I get closer to this little guy over time. (My first Little Grebe shot was made in March 22.)
