Coffee Connection is a coffeehouse in the South Wedge operated in conjunction with Project Empower, a nonprofit organization. They roast their own beans in a machine located at the back of the store. All coffee is labeled fair trade. In addition to coffee, the store sells fair trade items imported directly from Peru, including sweaters and hand-made jewelry.

Coffee Connection was formerly known as the "Women's Coffee Connection" because it provides jobs for women looking to (re)enter the workforce. They have a second location in North Winton Village called Greenhouse Cafe. A third location in Charlotte called Cannonball Cafe is planned.

All locations offer free wifi.

Other places that sell Coffee Connection brews are Equal Grounds, Artisan Cafe, and [WWW]Connections at UR's Rush Rhees Library. rocwiki.org/Coffee_Connection

Saint Vincent Archabbey, was founded in 1846 by Father Boniface Wimmer, OSB, and is the oldest Benedictine monastery in the United States.

There is a such thing as a "Steampunk Sourcebook" ? haa, someone was hiding it in the drawing section of Barnes and Noble

The lady was selling the hand woven socks admist the wilds, where it was hard for me to imagine any potential buyer. Then I thought may be the motive is not necessary sales but to sit back and enjoy doing whatever is at hands. Somewhat like what sheperds do.

She offered me fresh apricots from the bowls kept in front... and needless to mention , i was obliged for this gesture.

Ohmygosh I cannot express how much I love this organization.

It's so beautiful.

I'm so proud that I walked around the halls today and saw people look at my arm, look up, and nod, then showing me there on their arm was the same word.

Truly beautiful and amazing.

For all that read this:

If anyone is ever feeling down or just wants to talk, feel free to message me. I'm always here to listen.

It's the spirit of the day :D

love always,

leah

Updating my database: servers do it automatically every few minutes in some cases- the Internet is so smart, it knows we are constantly changing!

One of the things I am changing is feeling under-appreciated. I had this awareness that I get my satisfaction and pleasure from what I am doing in the moment. Yet I too often have front-loaded and back-loaded things with expectations. They impact the energy and the experience itself. I am choosing to give up that habit as I am a pleasure seeking person! I have re-purposed the pity pot I used to have into a compost bin where my "I am done with that" thoughts go to be reconfigured. Now I ask, “are things being done to you or for you?” This changes the energy for me in a heart beat. (Because I understand now it's all for me. And it's all good.)

“My whole life is a struggle. When I was a child I had leprosy and ulcers. Then I lost my parents. Then I lost my husband. Now I’m involved with tailoring for rest of life...I have to get food for myself, there’s no one to help me. But I don’t want to marry again. If I hadn't had leprosy, then maybe I would be educated and be able to get a job. Life is not joyful.”

Social conformity does not necessarily constitute spiritual maturity. In fact, the more spiritually advanced you are, the more childlike you become.

And a controlled childhood is so much better than a reckless one prone to fatal mishaps.

Journaling has always been cathartic for me. Ever since I was a little girl, I have kept a journal. I used to think that I would be a writer like Laura Ingalls Wilder, and I wanted to have journals recording the events of my life that I could look back at later and use as material for my novels. Later, writing became a way to deal with my feelings when they were overwhelming, which was a lot of the time. In high school I journaled constantly - I carried my journals everywhere and I wrote a lot. I also started writing poems and stories, and I have notebooks full of those as well, but I mostly kept them separate from my journal writing.

In college, my journaling went electronic. I started a livejournal, then a myspace, and eventually a facebook page. Journaling became public - something for everyone else's consumption. This was not a bad thing. One of the major reasons I journaled was because I felt like I had no one to talk to about the things I was feeling. So, I wrote. Electronic journaling became a way to share thoughts and feelings from a safe place - really me, but protected behind a screen. There is an emotional dissociation that people tend to have with electronic text that let me post whatever I wanted and share what was in my mind, and still not feel like I was being too revealing, even though the people reading what I was writing knew me in real life.

And now, it's back to paper again. My photos have become a journal of sorts. Some chronicling my daily adventures, others taken for their emotive or evocative qualities, and still others thought and sight experiments to let me refine my own aesthetic vision and technical abilities.

"J" - The Sensuous Woman

Rufus “Catfish” Mayfield testifies before the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee in Washington, D.C. August 23, 1967 considering legislation that would make it a crime to cross state lines to incite a riot.

Mayfield, chair of the board of PRIDE, Inc., dismissed the legislation as a ploy and instead made the plea for funding PRIDE, Inc. as a means of addressing the issues that lead to unrest.

Pride was a fledgling organization started by Marion Barry, Mary Treadwell and Mayfield to provide job training and employment for inner city youth.

“No agitator can tell me what to do. I talked with Rap Brown. I talked with Mr. Carmichael. Did we have a riot? No.”

“Our primary purpose has been to plant self-pride in a person. There’s pride in organizing your own group.”

“Our application is simple. We ask, ‘Do you want to Work? Do you want to mess up the program? Are you ashamed of being black?’”

“If he is ashamed of being black, there is nothing we can do for him.”

Mayfield went on to say that those that want to mess up the program are thrown out and added that an average of 20 have been fired every day.

More than 1,000 youths were at work under the program financed by a Labor Department grant that was due to expire September 1st.

By November, Mayfield resigned from Pride—under internal pressure, according to Mayfield. Treadwell, Barry and executive director Carroll Harvey allegedly were taking the organization in a direction that Mayfield disagreed with, although whatever differences existed were never spelled out publicly.

While his star shined brightly for only a few months, Mayfield was responsible for inspiring young people in the District and in launching what became Marion Barry’s summer jobs for youth program.

On Saturday night of 22nd. July 1995 I drank my last drink, took long walks the next day looking for another, spent the longest Sunday night of my life sober & went into rehab on Monday. I used the next nine months planning & scheming a new life that I knew I had the moment I locked the door on the home which would never be home again. The only indispensable carry-with-me was the inevitable New Age six year old kid who treated the whole escapade like an adventure on a bomb site.

About the Author: William J. Knaus ED.D., is a liscensed psychologist with more then forty years clinical experience in working with people suffering anxiety, depression, and mental illnesses.

About the book:Powerful tools in this book will help silence irrational thoughts that trigger anxiety. You can create a personal plan to control excessive feelings of fear and worries. Calm yourself when panic attacks strike. Defeat depression and other conditions that often occur with anxiety. It helps build self esteem and you can track your symptoms and maintain progress.

My opinion: this is a great workbook. I am on the 2nd chapter and so far it is very informative on CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy) and REBT (rational emotive behavioral therapy).

My mom got me this book and soon I will be using the book in my CBT sessions.

its like homework but it truly is giving me a new look on things.

There is a time to take counsel of your fears, and there is a time to never listen to any fear.
