The most densely populated city in the southern hemisphere. 30 million. In the first moments of arriving in the core of Old Sao Paulo I was a little nervous. So much traffic, seeming without road rules. So many pedestrians & street vendors, one must walk in the road. Roads carrying so many pedestrians I thought they were designated pedestrian walkways...until the traffic comes barrelling up behind you. I followed someone up steps to get to the little street that bridged this one shown. From there I got my shot. While up there someone asked me for directions. I was quite taken aback. I must look like I belong here *~* I was, in fact, able to direct him as he was asking for a street the name of which I recognised as one I'd recently travelled. Nothing makes you feel like you've managed to 'immerse' yourself in an alien place more than to be asked directions *~* So many warnings of Sao Paulo's dangers. From the consulate, the media, the well meaning friends & acquaintances. Be careful. Be careful. The truth is that never for one single second did I feel threatened travelling amongst this dense mass of Paulistanos (as citizens of Sao Paulo city are called). Many were helpful & respectful. Offering assistance when seeing me trying to negotiate a map. Physically taking me to a juncture that had a clear path to my destination. Offering a seat on the busy Metro underground system. I'm sorry, I don't know about your north american city, but in Toronto these days, rarely do you see anyone, man woman or child, offer a seat to an older female, or a pregnant one or one with a child or a senior male. Sad but true. There is much that I have come to love about Brazil. Its people, many whom I met purely by chance of standing or sitting next to them; its vibrance; its food; its culture. The Museu de Arte de Sao Paulo (MASP) is fabulous. Both in its unique architecture & its content. It's a beautiful country, with a new female President for the first time in its history, a gross national product that surpasses all other SA countries, with goals and ambitions to prove itself once & for all on the world stage. Long live Brazil. You've got my vote!
Sao Paulo's Latin motto 'non dvcor, dvco' translates as "I am not led. I lead".
And the city's affectionate nickname to its citizens is "Sampa"

After yesterday's 24 hour torrential rains, then today none at all, tonight is the clearest night since I've been in Brazil. No clouds. A 3/4 moon. Many star constellations visible. As if saying "Here you go, Ana..this is what it's like when it isn't rainy season" *~*
Feelings of anger are seething all through me
My eyes burn red and my blood is boiling
The blaze that lies behind my eyes,
Hatred drives, my muted cries.
Damn you all that laugh and mock me
You'll bear my curse when you hear my song
Model: Riimms - check out her great work :)
This is replacement crew 108 stationed at Seething, UK during WWII. There B-24 Liberator was the "Wazzle Dazzle". The photo was taken in 1945 in Seething, England.
Seething probably comes from Old English words meaning full of chaff. (The lane was near the cornmarket in Fenchurch St).
Many thanks to Sandra for the shooting. Was a great time and I learned a lot (at least I hope so).
Have to look up whose texture it was I used, since I am not at home right now and can't check. Update: Texture is from swimmingintheether
Summer forest fires in the Northwest can get quite hot. The largest ones can carry so much heat into the upper atmosphere that they create thunderheads.
This one looked much better in B&W. Some dodge & burn after comment.
Taken two years ago when my post processing skills were not quite as advanced.
Shot from my front porch looking due North at sunset.
These are micro (macro) photographs of the deep interiors of my roses.
If you ever wanted to know what was going on underneath all of those beautiful petals, now you know.
The colors, as bright and saturated as they are, are authentic, and the textures are natural; nothing has been added or altered in post-processing.

A first go at a 30 sec timelapse from Seething observatory tonight .A couple of shooting stars thrown in too.
Lots of examples of this all over Brentmoor Heath today, small areas on several nests were absolutely jam packed with hundreds of ants. I'm used to seeing busy nests, but hadn't seen it quite this densely active. It seemed to happen soon after th esun came out and the temperature rose a little.
I had to sit in the car park for two hours whilst my kids got shown around Seething observatory with Cubs/Scouts. I soon got bored and retrieved the camera from my boot.
