it is supposed to be a seedless variety Himrod but about 75% of the grapes do actually have seeds in them. Not sure if it was mislabelled or it is some sort of reversion phenomenon or a reaction to stress (although the plant looks good)

tbh i dont mind the seeds anyway.

Great to grow grapes in Ireland, albeit in a greenhouse.

A Fern is any one of a group of about 20,000 species of plants classified in the phylum or division Pteridophyta, also known as Filicophyta. The group is also referred to as Polypodiophyta, or Polypodiopsida when treated as a subdivision of tracheophyta (vascular plants). The term "pteridophyte" has traditionally been used to describe all seedless vascular plants, making it synonymous with "ferns and fern allies".

Fruit

For six word story.

I was delighted when these grapes showed up on my sandwich plate at lunch today! I wanted to include grapes among the fruit

in my collection this month but I hadn't seen any at all until now... This was only a small cluster but they're grapes!

Dekopon, also known as Sumo Citrus in the United States, is a seedless and sweet variety of mandarin orange. It is a hybrid between Kiyomi and ponkan, developed in Japan in 1972. Originally a brand name, "Dekopon" has become a genericized trademark and it is used to refer to all brands of the fruit; the generic name is shiranuhi or shiranui. -- courtesy Wikipedia

Other fruit cowers before the banana. If you so much as place a banana in the immediate vicinity of fruit, it'll act as a sort of fruit-based Ark of the Covenant, spewing out ethylene with such raging ferocity that everything in its immediate vicinity will powerlessly transform into mush at a much accelerated rate. This is why we hang bananas, like a trophy or a bust of a beloved ancestor.

And yet, despite its status as king of all fruit, we discard an estimated 1.4 million bananas every single day.

if you’ve ever wondered why artificial banana flavour – – doesn’t taste quite like banana in the way that say, orange candy tastes like oranges, here’s something for you to chew on. Artificial banana flavour was a replication of the Gros Michel banana taste, not of the Cavendish banana.

(William Cavendish, the 6th Duke of Devonshire, had been cultivating a private banana collection in his Chatworth House estate’s greenhouse after having received a shipment from Mauritius in 1834. These so-called Cavendish bananas originated on the Indian Ocean island, and had the distinction of being seedless).

Artificial banana flavouring draws much of its taste from the inclusion of isoamyl acetate, an organic compound found naturally in all varieties of banana, but in especially high concentrations in the Gros Michel. Cavendish bananas, on the other hand, possess a more complex chemical make-up, with larger numbers of volatile compounds that distract from the flavour of the isoamyl acetate.

Mikan-flavored hard candy from Japan. Mikan is a seedless Japanese citrus fruit similar to tangerines. The candy, called "micandy" in Japan, tastes very much like lemon drops.

This is 'Brown's Select' cultivar. The fruits are larger than my old one, 'Mr. Mac', but I'm hoping they will be just as sweet and tasty. I was really fond of 'Mr. Mac' and think I'll probably get another one.

Nan and others have asked what they taste like. They're a mandarin orange, like a clemantine. Very sweet, tasty, usually no seeds and a skin that "zips" right off in one piece. I'll probably pick these when I set up the greenhouses today.

First fruit of the first yield in our garden.. :)

Today I enjoyed yummy and delicious melon boats...along with a good book on my front porch :)

The sultana is a "white", oval seedless grape variety also called the sultanina, Thompson Seedless, Lady de Coverly, and oval-fruited Kishmish. It is assumed to originate from the Asian part of the Ottoman Empire.

Many thanks to all those who take the time to view add them as favourites and comment on my photographs. It is very much appreciated.

Proteas usually flower during spring time. The general structure of the Protea flower head consists of a mass of flowers on a woody receptacle. The ovary is protected by the receptacle and thus not seen when looking at the flower, the anthers are however present at the top of the flower which can then easily transfer the pollen to the vectors.

The common Protea plants, e.g. Protea, Leucospermum and Leucadendron are diploid organisms and thus they can freely hybridise with closely related species of Protea flowers to form a new cultivars. Unusually, not all the genera within the family Proteaceae are able to hybridise freely, for example the Leucadendron mentioned previously, cannot be crossed with the Leucospermum because of the difference they display in a haploid chromosome number. The genetic incompatibility between Leucadendron genera Protea having a haploid chromosome number of 13, and Leucospermum genera Protea, having 12, makes them genetically incompatible for hybridizing, resulting in the pollinated flowers yielding either no fruit, or seedless fruit as the resulting plant embryos, from the incompatible pollen and ovum, fails to develop.

PS: I am now travelling for the next few days and will be in a different time zone for the next 4 weeks in Arizona (GMT - 7) so I will catch up with my flickr friends while they are probably all fast asleep!

The "fern" (taxon Filicopsida, Pterophyta, Filicinae or Pteropsida) are seedless vascular plants whose salient morphological features are its large leaves ("megafilos" or "fronds"), usually pinnate and circinada prefoliación. The monophyletic nature of this group has been questioned by several authors, but today seems proven based on the plastid gene. It is usually divided into monophyletic groups: Leptosporangiate fern, and Ophioglossidae Marattiales.

There are many maidenhair ferns in this area of Kentucky. I like the horseshoe shape of the fern plant and the neat-shaped pinnules (little leafets) and how they repel water.

Ferns are flowerless, seedless plants that reproduce using sperm, eggs, and spores, not seeds. This species is very beautiful, to me.
