Photograph taken at an altitude of Forty five metres, in the beauty of Twilight, prior to the magic of the Golden Hour around sunrise (Sunrise was at precisely 04:38am), at 02:48am on Thursday 12th June 2014 off Lullingstone Lane and Eagle Heights overlooking the field adjacent to Lullingston Roman Villa in the village of Eynsford, Kent, England.
Twilight is a wonderful time for photography, when the human eye can barely decipher details and hue in the first light after darkness, and Mother Nature's beauty is unveiled moment by moment.

The first dance is the ruume.The men form circles, clapping their hands.They wear an embroidered tunic (called nnare) and a turban with an ostrich feather (sometimes a hat in the heat of the day). The make-up is complex : mask of yellow earth pigments, black ashes for lips, khol for eyes and sometimes a white line from forehead to chin.
The Wodaabe belong to the family of Peul people. In the XIXth century they separated from the Fulbe Peul, and far from islam and urban life, they kept the traditional nomadic life. They are probably around 100 000.
Once a year, at the end of rainy season, when the cows are fat and water is in abundance, they gather for a very special type of competition : the Gerewol. They choose a place in the bush, near a pond. During one week, a group, the "guests", will face another one, the "hosts" (The following year, they will intervert their parts). It's a festival, but also a kind of war. The male "guests" come to take the female of the other group : bachelor girls or married women who want to leave their husband. The only weapon for men : charm and seduction. They will dance days and nights, with only short breaks.The climax is the Gerewol dance, the quintessential expression of Wodaabe male beauty.
La première danse est le ruume. Les hommes dansent en cercle en battant des mains. Il portent une tunique brodée, appelée nnare, et un turban orné d'une plume d'autruche (parfois un chapeau quand la chaleur est trop forte). Le maquillage est complexe : masque de terre jaune, cendre noire pour les lèvres, khol pour les lèvres et parfois un trait blanc qui va du front au menton.
Les Wodaabe appartiennent à la grande famille des Peul. Au XIXe siècle ils se sont séparés des Peul Fulbé et, loin de l'islam et de la vie urbaine, ont conservé le mode de vie nomade traditionnel. Ils sont environ 100 000.
Une fois par an, à la fin de la saison des pluies, quand les vaches sont grasses et que l'eau est en abondance, ils se rassemblent pour une compétition très particulière : le Gerewol. Ils choisissent une zone herbeuse dans la brousse, près d'une mare. Durant une semaine un groupe, les "invités", va affronter le groupe des "hôtes" (Ils intervertiront les rôles l'année suivante). L'enjeu : la conquête des femmes, les jeunes filles bien sûr, mais aussi les femmes mariées qui veulent quitter leurs maris. La seule arme des hommes : le charme et la séduction. Ils vont danser jour et nuit en s'arrêtant seulement pour de courtes pauses. le point culminant de la cérémonie est la danse Gerewol, l'expression de la quintessence de la beauté masculine pour les Wodaabe.
