when information signs and a fence are not enough, HydroRobo comes into play.

Fragments of reality...

This little chipmunk looked really cute on the fence.

Thank you for taking the time to visit. Happy fenced Friday y'all. :-)

... you're not allowed to photograph here. Look closely and you'll see the gentleman that delivered that declaration to us.

Earlier in the summer, Nigel, an Australian photographer friend, came for a visit to London with his family and he and I were lucky enough to meet up on a couple of occasions to shoot together. I of course suggested a visit to Canary Wharf, one of my favourite haunts, and this building was one of the final destinations on our little tour. Check out Nigel's photostream and when you are looking at his fantastic images keep in mind that Nigel shoots almost exclusively on film. A true inspiration for someone like me that loves film but frankly is not very good at it.

Stonehenge is a prehistoric monument in Wiltshire, one of the most famous sites in the World

Recently on the telly, Laurence Llewelyn - Bowen has been striding purposefully around Stonehenge with paint colour charts pretending that he was intending to paint the stones for a spoof advert.

He reminded me of this shot I took (painted using lights), one night shortly after President Obama visited Stonehenge last time that Air Force One touched down in England - (The President said he'd always wanted to tick Stonehenge off his bucket list).

This shot demonstrates the concept of passive light painting - takes a bit of planning, but then you just have to point your camera in the right place & then the lighting's sorted for you.....

Bob's your uncle, Fanny's your Aunt.

Ambient lighting provided by the Full Moon (out of shot) & stars,

Very very faint Intermittent light painting on the front faces of the stones by distant car headlights (from the incessant stream of cars travelling Southwest on the A303)

Blue LED lighting inside Stonehenge by the security guards who were looking for me ;)

I'm much too fast - no worries!

Good game though :)

The painting: "Closed" by Martin Wong (1946-1999,) acrylic on canvas, 1985-1986, was part of the show "Around Days End: Art In Downtown New York, 1970-1986" at the Whitney Museum Of American Art. It is a dark, depressing, dystopic painting, very much a reflection of that neighborhood during that time period. Ironically, this is the same neighborhood where the new Whitney building now stands, revitalized by development and large infusions of cash: now home of some of the most expensive real estate in the city.

This show took place in late 2020, when the city was slowly reopening after COVID shutdowns. The mood was paranoid, and the Whitney limited visitors and required timed tickets, face masks, temperature checks, and (I'm not 100% sure now) proof of vaccination. So this painting and show suited the mood.

A special thanks to my flickr friend Tony Flipmode, who has a fantastic photostream. He urged me to apply to this competition, otherwise I would have never known :)

... at an Ai Weiwei exhibit at the Hirshhorn, that I saw a few days ago. very interesting stuff. these are rusty metal pipes obtained from construction sites, arranged extremely artistically, like curved, undulating earth. it's hard to get a sense of the 3D aspect from this shot ...

Two male California Quails perched high atop the old gnarly Garry oak tree in the backyard at sunset...This is a rare sight to see two at the same time in the tree. They remind me of knights in shining armour with their cute curled head feather and their distinct steely grey-blue plumage, being very protective and keeping a close eye on the covey.

Strobist: Slow shutter was used for kerosene lamp illumination. Gridded snoot with 1/2 CTO gell over speedlite focused on face camera left, a speedlite with diffuser on low power behind camera and slightly to left for whole of body, bounced speedlite to camera right at low power setting to illuminate left side of body and another speedlite with 1/2 CTO gell zoomed 105mm for lighting effect on roller door. Industrial halogen lighting used to illuminate background with white balance and colour added for blue effect in post.

This image was taken in 2017, during ArtPrize 9. I like how the people were evenly spaced. The guy on the left photographing the dirt rug, is my son. As you can see, two security guards were present. The attached link is from the artist website.

Imagining a conversation while digging into the archives at the MNBAQ, Ville de Québec, 2018

For #FlickrFriday #SelfPortrait theme.

FYI, when a security guard asks "can I help you?" it generally means I don't know who you are and I'm pretty certain you are where you shouldn't be :-D
