They've been installing security/surveillance cameras in the Ditmars Boulevard subway station the last few days. See the picture above for all of the cameras I could spot in the picture. There are even more out of the shot. It all goes back to this:

Note that the story said back in April that they were already installed at the Ditmars station and would be operational in 2 months. That's not true at all. These cameras just showed up this week.

It also said that the cameras would be operational at other Astoria stations by the end of the summer. Well, they weren't in time for this: gothamist.com/2007/09/03/man_fatally_sho.php

There are cameras like this everywhere in Monaco, although you tend not to notice them that often.

Inside a Jamba Juice. I asked the lady behind the register if it was normally like this. She said it was probably because it's bright outside. Maybe the camera was toggling back and forth between assisted IR and natural IR, but both were overexposed?

I saw these being installed yesterday (August 1), but didn't have my camera with me ... but I snagged a few pics today. It was pretty hot out, so I ducked into the subway to get home, but I'm curious if these are also on the east side of Penn Station. I'll check tomorrow morning.

Do they need a permit and $1M of insurance to mount these for more than 30 minutes?
