Over the past five decades, the MSC has become the major global forum for the discussion of security policy. Each February, it brings together more than 450 senior decision-makers from around the world, including heads-of-state, ministers, leading personalities of international and non-governmental organizations, as well as high ranking representatives of industry, media, academia, and civil society, to engage in an intensive debate on current and future security challenges. This image is produced using three bracketed exposures of the same subject, which are combined and tonemapped using Photomatix Pro software, to produce a single High Dynamic Range image - which reveals far more detail and colour than a single exposure. The image was then tweaked some more in Photoshop CS.

Questions about the security of U.S. borders and effectiveness of U.S. border controls have been compounded by recent events in Europe and migration from Central America. However, political rhetoric obscures the complexity of North American border relations, which are actually dominated by the growth of beneficial and legal cross-border trade and travel.
On March 16, Foreign Policy at Brookings’s Latin America Initiative and Americas Society/Council of the Americas co-hosted a two-panel discussion exploring how new policies for the U.S.-Mexico border can balance the benefits of a continued rise of legal travel and trade with the simultaneous need for Mexico and the United States to work collaboratively to improve border security.

A campus security guard rests for a midnight snack in the underpass. I really felt for these guys, stationed at the gates of the campus all through the night, especially once winter came. They had literally nothing to do but stand around all day; sure, not the hardest work in the world but mind numbingly boring and uneventful.
I was quite pleased to capture my security light against this lovely blue sky!
See the light large on dark!! :)

Taken for the Active Assignment Weekly! group. This week's assignment: Low Key Lighting
The dare really challenged me this week. And after brooding long enough about how to get a defined red colorful splash into an otherwise dark picture I came up with the laser idea. The sunglasses are for coolness and protection, as I got hit in the eyes several times. The dress is of course a reference to Agent Smith or the Reservoir Dogs.
What it took: I bought a cheap air level that also holds a laser to achieve levelling over longer distances. The hard part was first to find out how long I could stay motionless to get a sharp picture (not longer than 0.5 sec) and then to get my wife to move the air level (on a second tripod) fast enough to get the "scan feel". This proved harder than I anticipated. You have to move smoothly and if you are to fast you don't see the laser at all while too slow makes you just look stupid with a sharp laser line in your face. After around 30 shots this was the best result.
The polarization filter was used to enhance the laser contrast.

Congress’ Role in the Making and Execution of National Security Policy in the Trump Era
President Obama and the Republican Congress were usually at odds over national security policy. With a Republican in the White House now, will the President and Congress see eye to eye on threats and their solutions, or will differing institutional pressures and perspectives keep the respective ends of Pennsylvania Avenue apart? And, will the congressional investigations of Russia’s attempt to influence the presidential election end with a bang or a whimper? However the investigations conclude, what impact will they have on the relationship between the two branches?
