It's great that they're increasing the security of my Internet banking with this SecurID One Time Password token, but the usual "we can provide this leaflet in alternative formats" message made me wonder. It's great that a visually impaired person can find out about the new tokens, but I wonder what equivalent security they offer to someone who cannot read the LCD. I just found this a little funny really.

A cop keeps watch over the crumbling pavement of a dead K-Mart in Saint John, Indiana.

We live in a time of Apocalypse, but this image seems particularly Apocalyptic to me. It also seems appropriately Hoosier.

Edited to Ad: I went on the Google after I posted this just now to see if I could find out when this K-Mart closed -- it shut down in 2011 -- and learned that this was the site of a mass shooting in 1985. A local man shot a motorcyclist on US 41 (the road Robin and I were driving on when I took this picture), then went over to the K-Mart and started shooting at people in there. He killed three people before being gunned down by cops. Which all makes this picture even darker than it was.

There's news coverage of the shooting on YouTube, if you want to see how this sort of thing was covered 38 years ago. (Note to Robin: The on-scene report was made by an extremely young version of Chuck Goudie.)

My room looks out to the wide open spaces

My heart is touched by awakening faces

I see the panic of people in motion

I can stand here, look out on an ocean.

I am a wall awaiting a catchword.

I see the city laid out like a patchwork.

Alone I am free from hatred and blindness

I hope that this life is frozen and timeless.

My man is here, we grow old by inches.

Tomorrow I'll walk among heroes and princes.

I feed the boys, I hear secrets whispered.

I know the hearts that are battered and blistered.

I am secure

In this world of apartheid.

This is my cell, but it's connected to star - light.
