Out of the 30 Southern Railway Merchant Navy 4-6-2s built during the 1940s to the design of Oliver Bulleid, 11 survive, all as rebuilt by British Railways during the 1950s. Or perhaps it would be more accurate to state that ten-and-half class members survive. The odd one out is 35029 ‘Ellerman Lines’, which is on display as a sectioned locomotive at the National Railway Museum in York.

Well here I am at Putney Bridge Underground station and the beginning of the long awaited London Thames River Walk. With my guide in hand it's off we go first to Fulham Palace and then along the River Thames towards the Houses of Parliament on the first section of the Thames River Walk.

This is the subway hike, this hike requires 10 hours of hiking from start to finish, 3 Abseils and at times navigating across slick rock sometimes having no trail to follow. Then once your in the slot canyon there’s only one way to go!

Accompanied with three close friends we navigated our way through this hike. We wore wetsuits for the slot canyon section, at times having to wade through waist and neck deep 40f/4.4c water that had accumulated at the bottom of the slot canyon from rainfall.

A section of Glenawilling Strand, East Cork. This is a combination of two shots - a long exposure of 25 secs at f/11 to get the silky effect in the sea and the other at 1/250 sec. The reason for the latter is that the long exposure shot suffered from water droplets on the lens - there was a very high wind blowing towards the camera - and so I used the short exposure shot to mask those in post-processing.

Running as a second section of Q326 (probably more for accounting reasons than actual amounts of traffic), S326 has just rolled on to the Plymouth Sub and is Detroit-bound behind SD40-2 #8457 and SD50-2 #8597.

A section of interlaced tram track in York Road, Wandsworth , during installation in the early twentieth century. The arrangement enabled trams to pass (albeit, singly) in each direction through a narrow section of street.

The running rails in each direction are separate - note the twin flange grooves. After WW 1 these were changed to single rails, although the double conduit slots remained. The altered installation remained in use until 1950.

Twilight and moonrise at Springfield, Massachusettts' Union Station finds the Boston section of Amtrak's eastbound 'Lake Shore Limited' boarding passengers (including, shortly, myself) while the Greenfield-bound 'Valley Flyer' waits to depart northbound. While the station building itself here has recently undergone a beautiful restoration and renovation, work is still slowly ongoing at platform level.

The tail end of the Boston section is encrusted in icy snow- west of here in the Berkshires, and to the north in Vermont, heavy snow had recently fallen. The conductor here had assumed I was only taking photos and not actually boarding- by the time he pulled up the step, he realized the situation and let me on at the last second! Incidentally, I did not make it all the way to Boston on this trip, but that's another story.

The nosebleed section of CSX's former B&OCT 16th St. Bridge frames the Willis Tower in downtown Chicago. Willis Tower is still referred to by many by its original name and owner, Sears.

The 16th St. Bridge tender controlled (and technically still does, although the Air Line hasn't seen a train in a few years, and the B&OCT for many years) both drawbridges which are adjacent to each other and run parallel.

Sick with a cold last few days but I've been working on the engine section, which I feel is the weakest part of the SHIP at the moment. So here's a before and after shot. It's better but still not 100% happy.

The light bley section needs more greebling, not too much, but more. Also I just spotted a mistake I need to fix at the back!

The offices to this factory had plexiglass with cross sections of various insects and plants embedded in it.

The elbow of the black robot arm nests into the groove of the exposed pulley wheel in front of it, which has a 1x1 round on each side. This, combined with the 1x1 brick with studs on 2 sides, the hook, and the way the cannon is attached to both sides, holds the two helicopter blade pieces back to back with enough strength to support the weight of the wings. The technic connector with the T-bar and the horizontal clip with the cheese slope both nest between the two halves. The flashlight piece just below the cockpit fits into the 1x1 brick with studs on 2 sides and helps keep the engine in place. The technic visor technique is slightly modified from Mike Nieves.

P.S.: Flickr really should bring back notes so I don't have to explain all this in words. EDIT: notes added

In late September, we hiked the Sawbill Lake Trail in Sleeping Giant Provincial Park. Candy called this shadowed and eerie section "the witches' tunnel."

This is a dark and remote section of parkway between the Peaks of Otter and Apple Orchard Mountain. It can be very dark here on a clear night with no moon, and it's very rare to see a car come past, making it a perfect place for some night shots. I've always liked this old dead tree that has been standing here long as I can remember, every time I'm out after dark I stop here for a try. If you look at the branches furthest right in the sky, just right of that is the Andromeda Galaxy, the greatest distance that can be seen with the unaided eye at an incredible 2.5 million light years distance. It also contains a trillion stars.

From the old Apeture album and a trip to Argentina & Paraguay. This section is on the Argentina side.

Per Wikipedia:

Iguazu Falls is located where the Iguazu River tumbles over the edge of the Paraná Plateau, 23 kilometres (14 mi) upriver from the Iguazu's confluence with the Paraná River. Numerous islands along the 2.7-kilometre-long (1.7 mi) edge divide the falls into numerous separate waterfalls and cataracts, varying between 60 to 82 metres (197 to 269 ft) high. The number of these smaller waterfalls fluctuates from 150 to 300, depending on the water level. About half of the river's flow falls into a long and narrow chasm called the Devil's Throat (Garganta del Diablo in Spanish or Garganta do Diabo in Portuguese). The Devil's Throat is U-shaped, 82 metres high, 150 m wide, and 700 m long (269×490×2,300 ft). Placenames have been given also to many other smaller falls, such as San Martin Falls, Bossetti Falls and many others.

About 900 metres (2,950 ft) of the 2.7-kilometre (1.7 mi) length does not have water flowing over it. The edge of the basalt cap recedes by 3 mm (0.1 in) per year. The water of the lower Iguazu collects in a canyon that drains in the Paraná River, a short distance downstream from the Itaipu Dam. The junction of the water flows marks the border between Brazil, Argentina, and Paraguay. There are points in the cities of Foz do Iguaçu, Brazil, Puerto Iguazú, Argentina, and Ciudad del Este, Paraguay, which have access to the Iguazu River, where the borders of all three nations can be seen, a popular tourist attraction for visitors to the three cities.

Distribution of the Falls between Argentina and Brazil

The Iguazu Falls are arranged in a way that seems like a reverse letter "J". The border between Brazil and Argentina runs through the Devil's Throat. On the right bank is the Brazilian territory, which has just over 20% of the jumps of these falls, and the left side jumps are Argentine, which make up almost 80% of the falls.
