The Offspring @ Alex's Bar, Long Beach, CA. 20th Anniversary Ignition show. May 3rd, 2012.
This was one of the best shows I've ever been to & I feel very lucky to have been here as it was only a 178 capacity bar. Tonight, more so than any other night, I felt extremely proud to have grown up a punk in Southern California. Thank you to Dexter for having been such a positive influence in shaping my life in the way that you did.

So at around 11 on Friday afternoon, I was on twitter instead of watching a movie in English class, and saw a tweet from the members of NFG announcing a secret "practice" at Solid Sound Studios in Pompano Beach, Florida. Freaking out, I called my mom, got signed out of school early, and headed over to the venue. Let's just say this was one of the best days of my life.

A woman in the audience behind me shouted to Jake, "TAKE THE MOTHERFUCKING JACKET OFF!" Later on, he obliged.

April 30th 2011 marks the day I was given the chance to cover the 'Yuna Inspired' Secret Show as media on behalf of Junk Online. It was pretty much my first ever job as a journalist..... sort of. Well, here's what went down that night:
The crowd consists mostly of hijab-clad young ladies who obviously got their fashion tips from none other than Yuna herself, whom some have declared 'one of the local musical heavyweights of Malaysia'. Yunalis Zarai, or Yuna, as most of her fans call her, who has been making headlines with her recent projects in the US came on stage looking chic as always, rocking her latest fashion trademark - the Turban.
Yuna captivated the crowd with her engaging performance and charming personality, leaving them wanting more after she performed five songs and left the stage. Their demands were met when she came back on stage to play more songs including Penakut, Fears and Frustrations, and Decorate. She even showed off the newest addition to her "musical instrument family" that she recently brought back from her trip, the Suzuki Q-Chord.
All good things must come to an end as she ended her session with a song that most Yuna fans probably know by heart - Deeper Conversation, putting on a one-woman show with nothing but her electric guitar and her flawless voice to close the show. In the end, she once again proved herself to be a prominent hijab-clad woman who surpassed not only the Malaysian stereotype, but also the Muslim stereotype. There's absolutely no doubt, this girl is going to successfully propagate her art worldwide and make a name for herself in the music industry.
Keep making Malaysia proud, Yuna!
