Well, here it is.... Finally.... The fully uploaded 2019 Halloween Exhibit. As I previously mentioned Gab Minotaur (who is one of my creative partners) and I took all of these photos for a 2018 Halloween Exhibit and Event that that was sponsored by Second Pride.
We built out 4 main photo sets: A Zombie Apocalypse Scene, a date scene at a pumpkin patch, a dark forest trail and a haunted house. The last three of which were all connected in a region long, roughly eighty meter wide build. This was a massive undertaking as we were under a 4 week time crunch.
We shopped fast, built out all of the sets in a little over 10 days. Then we shot about 6 photo sessions over the following 10 days and I edited the roughly 40 to 50 pictures we had time to finish for the 2018 exhibit in about 4 days. Gab did some of the special effects editing on the Zombie pictures then turned them over to me for final post processing.
Over half of the original 2018 Halloween exhibit pictures were the Zombie Apocalypse shoot. About another 10 or 15 were the date night shoot. Leaving just a handful of pictures, originally edited from this batch.
So, it was a lot of fun (and a lot of work) to go back to the original files, blow most of them up to 6000 x 3000 pixel high resolution photos, edit them properly giving each photo the time and attention it deserves. This was also a frustrating exercise at first since I shot most of my pictures with night Wind-Light setting, but Gab shot most of his pictures using a strong daylight Wind-Light setting. Post processing his pictures and mine to match required a lot of extra work. And this is where some of the learning in assembling this exhibit came in.
There are a little over 60 photo is in this exhibit and about 10 scenes to it. As I worked on this exhibit, a lot of memories came flooding back of all of the fun we all had working together (Gab, Noah, Otter any myself) building out these sets, posing the models, pretty much on the spot with minimal planning, taking the photos, then getting them altogether. And memories of the stress staging such a massive project in such a short time came back too!!! Also fun, looking back on it all.
I will get the recent uploads all properly titled in the next day or two so they all work together to tell a bit of a story. I learned a lot of new self-taught techniques as I worked my way through this set of pictures. Techniques I know I will use many times as I work on other photos and larger photo shoots, so this has been an awesome learning experience for me. And I am certain I will refine these new techniques further in coming months as well.
There are still about 40 to 50 pictures that could have been included in this exhibit which I culled as I worked through. it These were only different angle shots of the same poses. The culled pictures were not adding impact or value to this final collection. They were, however all exhibit-worthy photos so these decisions proved to be extremely difficult for me. Perhaps I will collect some of those rough shots and post them at some point in their own album.
And who knows, I may find the inspiration to revisit the original Date Night and Zombie Apocalypse photos someday, update them and post those too. Although I think it would be more likely that I would invite gab to expand, re-imagine and reshoot those two scenes altogether at some point.
