Everything in nature invites us constantly to be what we are.

~ Gretel Ehrlich

I posted a very similar image from this place last year. This is the Squamish Estuary. I haven't been able to go back there, so thought I'd post another one from that day last January.

Hiking in Murrin Provincial Park , from up there , the reward. for our family tomorrow is family time to celebrate Thanksgiving. I am grateful to spend time with my little family and grateful for all your comments all year long. Happy Thanksgiving to all Canadians who celebrate tomorrow or Monday.

** Take a break and soak up the view.**

This common thrush really is pretty to look at.

Happy Easter to all celebrating.

I decided to take a portrait of our very common but beautiful male Robins.

Between Whistler and Pemberton is Nairn Falls in Nairn Falls Provincial Park. A 1.5 km hike from the parking area takes you to the viewing platform. Very busy during the day but later in the evening it wasn't so hectic. This is one of a number of waterfalls along the Green River that runs from Whistler to Lillooet Lake. The water was running at an incredible rate and it was well worth stopping for.

Perfect Autumn day for a drive from Vancouver to Whistler, BC. on the scenic Sea to Sky Highway

Enjoy your Friday!

A beautifully scenic 1-hour drive from Vancouver along the Sea to Sky Highway towards Squamish (Sḵwx̱wú7mesh) takes you to the Sea to Sky Gondola - definitely worth a visit (if you're not afraid of heights) to take in the exceptional views of Howe Sound. The 10-minute gondola ride to the top takes you 885m above sea level where sweeping views of Howe Sound and the coastal mountains greet you from every direction.

We went at around 5pm on a gorgeous early August day (2018).

The Sky Pilot Suspension Bridge is approximately 100 metres long and has a backdrop that falls away thousands of feet below, giving you a greater feeling of exposure and height over land. The Sky Pilot Suspension Bridge offers amazing 360 degree views of the area, both up to the high alpine of the mountains above and down to Howe Sound below.

From a lookout one can both see and hear the thundering downpour of water from Shannon Falls. It is among the many sights to stop and take in while traveling the "Sea to Sky" highway that leads out of Vancouver and takes travelers farther west.

I took this shot of Anderson lake on a recent Covid-19 Adventure and Picnic to Lillooet, D'Arcy and Gold Bridge, British Columbia. To the right of this pristine lake is a few cabins and to the left is the British Columbia Railway Line now leased to the Canadian National Railroad. Occasionally the Kaoham Shuttle from Lillooet to Seton Portage, a two car passenger train, will come as far as D'Arcy. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Kaoham Shuttle has been reduced to one car, serving only the local people and communities.

The following link is to a short film on the Kaoham Shuttle.

Another magnetic storm is in town and this time it's all over the news. Dozens of astrophotographers make the trip up to the cove to catch a glimpse of the Aurora Borealis. This was a strong storm (8.33 Kp) and it did not disappoint. The northern lights danced in the night sky and reflected off the Howe Sound. Vancouver, CANADÀ 2024

The Vancouver skyline is globally recognized for its stunning juxtaposition of modern architecture, a vast expanse of water (Burrard Inlet and False Creek), and the commanding North Shore Mountains as its backdrop.

Key Elements:

Modern Towers: The city is distinguished by a large number of high-rise residential towers and office buildings downtown, reflecting its rapid growth.

Landmarks: The skyline is anchored by unique structures such as the Harbour Centre (with its distinctive circular observation tower) and Canada Place (with its iconic white, sail-like roof).

Panoramic Views: The best views are often captured from:

Stanley Park: Offers a classic view from spots like Prospect Point.

West Vancouver (Cypress Mountain): Provides an elevated, sweeping view of the entire city, water, and Vancouver Island.

Kitsilano Beach: A popular view featuring the water in the foreground.

Sea-to-sky country and the Pacific coastal mountains of British Columbia - extending north from the Straight of Georgia and the low-runoff fjord of Howe Sound to the snow-covered peaks and ice fields of the iconic Tantalus Range.

Soaring high above the Fraser River and tracing a razor-thin line along the rugged Coast Mountains, Rocky Mountaineer’s Rainforest to Gold Rush passenger train emerges from Gibbs Tunnel near Lillooet, British Columbia.

This spectacular stretch of railroad, once part of the Pacific Great Eastern Railway (later BC Rail) empire connecting Vancouver’s coastal ports with the far reaches of the province’s interior, is devastatingly slated for abandonment. Like many scenic, low-density lines acquired by Canadian National, the Lillooet Subdivision faces a very uncertain future.

Believing the line’s fate to be all but sealed, I set out on an overnight, guerrilla-style mission from Calgary to capture the last run of the season I could before the 2025 season wraps up. Hopefully, 2026 will provide a few more opportunities to document this magnificent railroad, though I remain cautiously optimistic about what may come after that. For now, enjoy this view fuelled by grit, caffeine, and the determination not to let another railroad on borrowed time slip away undocumented.

Downtown Vancouver is the central peninsula hosting the business district, commerce, and much of the city's cultural and nightlife. It is the urban core of British Columbia.

Geography and Setting: The downtown area is surrounded by water on three sides (Burrard Inlet, English Bay, and False Creek), making parks and waterfront paths (like the Seawall) an integral part of the urban experience.

Key Districts:

Financial District: The primary area for offices and skyscrapers.

Gastown: The city's oldest district, known for its cobblestone streets, Victorian architecture, and the famous steam clock.

Yaletown: A former warehouse district converted into an upscale area with trendy restaurants and residential lofts.

Landmarks: Iconic sites such as Canada Place (with its white sail roofs), the Vancouver Art Gallery, and BC Place Stadium dominate the area. Its skyline is defined by numerous residential towers, as many residents live and work downtown.

Alberni by Kengo Kuma is a distinctive 43-storey residential high-rise in Vancouver, Canada, marking the first large-scale residential project in North America by the renowned Japanese architect Kengo Kuma. Developed by Westbank and Peterson Group, the building stands out for its unconventional design, featuring two prominent "scoops" or recesses at the base and a notable use of woodwork and Japanese-inspired design elements. Its form is intended to relate to Vancouver's natural surroundings, including the mountains and waterfront. Located at the intersection of Alberni and Cardero Street in the city's luxury district, the project offers high-end residences with world-class amenities.
