The the end of Japanese whaling in the Southern Ocean is Paul Watson and his crew's aim as they set sail from Freemantle in West Australia in the Steve irwin and the Ady Gil .

This is the Steve Irwin at Circular Quay in Sydney prior to it's departure to Freemantle.

Spare a thought for the issue. The sensless slaughter of whales for 'scientific research' will be stopped if we all get behind organisations such as Sea Shepherd Foundation.

Sea Shepherd exists to represent the real interests of our clients and our clients are the myriad of species from plankton to the great whales that dwell in the sea .

Passionate, courageous defenders of life in our Ocean who do what they do not for glory, and not for money, but because they love this planet, they love our Ocean and they love the life that swims within it and flies above it.

This is a movement that needs to grow and needs to become even more effective than we have been because the challenges will only become greater the the risks even more daunting.

Join Sea Shepherd Conservation Society and Supporters Worldwide at “World Love for Dolphins Day”

Demonstrations Against Taiji’s Brutal Dolphin Hunts to Take Place at Japanese Embassies and Consulates in the U.S. and Overseas

As Valentine’s Day nears, Sea Shepherd Conservation Society is calling on supporters and concerned individuals around the world to join with us and our Sea Shepherd Cove Guardians as we show our love for dolphins and call for an end to the brutal capture and slaughter of cetaceans in Taiji’s infamous cove.

On Friday, February 13, Sea Shepherd will show Japan just how much the world reveres dolphins with peaceful “World Love for Dolphins Day” demonstrations across the U.S. and overseas. Sea Shepherd USA chapters will host demos at the Embassy of Japan in Washington, D.C. and Japanese consulates in cities across the nation, in solidarity with Sea Shepherd’s volunteer Cove Guardians currently on the ground in Taiji.

For a list of events (more cities to be announced soon! Stay tuned!) and other ways you can get involved, please visit:

Last weekend volunteers from Sea Shepherd environment group arrived at our local park. They set up & spent a couple of hours collecting rubbish from the foreshore & wetlands. All the rubbish was catalogued & sorted into groups.

I was so impressed with their endeavour, walking in mud to find a lot of rubbish that could have ended up in our ocean.

I walk along this foreshore every day and pick-up rubbish when I see it, but was surprised with the amount collected.

My Opposites is "clean, beautiful oceans compared to dirty marine rubbish"

December 11 , 2014 – Taiji Japan

They can stop one person but they cannot stop the movement. They can’t stop the global army of Cove Guardians ready to expose Taiji to the world, armed only with our camera and our infinite patience. We will never give up, we will never falter and we will not stop until the slaughter ends.

Your grace

deep as the ocean's soul

Your language like

a sad and beautiful longing

You touch my heart

like a withering blossom

Fragile falling to the ground

Words by Claudia Ohiogboan

www.seashepherd.org/

I did this drawing 20 years ago, when the slogan “save the whales” was probably at the peak of its popularity. I was far from imagining that decades later, older and (sometimes) wiser, I would need to use it again. Sad but true, in this day and age, we still need to cry out “save the whales!”

The pilot whale slaughter in the Faroe Islands

(and for those who don’t know these whales are members of the dolphin family, hence the dolphin image, wink wink) shook my ground and made me realise that there are times in our lives when we need to take action. Even if that action is nagging everyone on Flickr (and other social networks), which is what I had at hand.

My heart goes out to all on Sea Shepherd who are fighting to preserve the ocean and all creatures in it, sometimes in life threatening situations. My thanks to all who supported me on this, who helped spread this story and who found a little time to post a letter or send an email. And thank you Mariana for giving voice to my toughts! Let’s keep it up, guys!

I hope one day oceans can be places like the one portrayed on this image, where all creatures can swim freely and in peace. White sharks and sardines included. What can I say? I’m hopelessly optimistic.

******

Latest update 28.July 2011: 84 letters confirmed. 13162 views on the entire story. 75% views coming from other social networks, so i assume many more letters have been written and petitions have been signed. Sea Shepherd to Bring the Whale Wars to the Faeroe Islands in 2011.

I started a fundraising Campaign if you want to help.

There are four castles belonging to the "Dahner castles group", three of them (to see here) were built on the same rock but all were built at different eras.

When the strong floodlights of the castle were switched off at the beginning of the night, the atmosphere of the surrounding landscape, supported by the light of the full moon, changed abruptly.

(It's a bit ironic that it's me now who lights the castle:)

Last storms has knocked over a few of the pines up here, a big one of them lies uprooted and close behind to the tripod and blocked a bit the view.

It was also windy up here that night, which made it difficult to stand still for a few seconds in front of the camera, so I set again the ISO slightly higher.

CALL TO ACTION: Please stand with us on February 13th for “World Love For Dolphins Day”.

Though you might find this photo difficult to look at, we owe it to the dolphins. We must not turn away because viewing these images is nothing compared to what these dolphins endure. Information is power. The world has the right to know what is happening to wild, migrating dolphins and whales as they try to swim past the deadly shores of Taiji. These dolphins belong to the oceans. They do not belong to Japan.

This is my hand. This is your hand. The hand of everyone we know, our friends, our family, our neighbours, for doing what we shouldn’t and for not doing what we should. Greed and the disproportionate ambition of Man are squeezing the life out of our planet while we watch, oblivious, and go on with our lives.

21 November, 2015 - Pilot Whales Slaughter – at Taiji, Japan

Today in Taiji the Cove Guardians witnessed the slaughter of 21 Pilot Whales.

In total, since November 19th, 2015, there has been one captive taken and 32 slaughtered. Plus at least one death the hunters attempted to cove with tarps in the late afternoon.

The Cove Guardians will remain with the family as they spend their third night terrified in the cove.

“Despite the moratorium on commercial whaling, Japan has continued to claim the lives of thousands of the gentle giants of the sea in a place that should be their safe haven,” said Sea Shepherd Founder, Captain Paul Watson. “Sea Shepherd and I, along with millions of concerned people around the world, certainly hope that Japan will honor this ruling by the international court and leave the whales in peace.”

Sea Shepherd Global will have the ships prepared to return to the Southern Ocean in December 2014 should Japan choose to ignore this ruling. If the Japanese whaling fleet returns, Sea Shepherd crew will be there to uphold this ruling against the pirate whalers of Japan.

November 12, 2015 - Captive Dolphins Update - at Taiji, Japan

So far in the 2015-2016 season, 55 bottlenose dolphins and two Risso's dolphins have been taken into captivity.

Need a reminder what captivity really means? Taiji, Japan is willing to show the world every day for six months a year.

Do not buy a ticket to marine parks or swim-with-dolphin adventures. Supporting these establishments is equal to standing next to the hunters in the killing cove.

Continue to follow the Cove Guardians and share news of the atrocities from Taiji. Most importantly, SAY NO TO CAPTIVITY.

Risso Dolphins , December 20th , 2013

A pod of 10 Risso dolphins were herded into the cove for the tenth time this season. The killers wasted no time as they hastily drove the pod for over an hour into the cove where they would spend their last moments together. The usually docile Rissos began to show their awareness and fear of the impending doom, as they threw themselves onto the rocky walls of the cove as they were netted off. No member of the pod was seen fit for captivity, with all 10 dolphins ending their morning lifeless on the butcher house floor.
