The lesser spotted East Lancs bodied Olympian: this appears to be one of a batch of only six built for Lincolnshire Roadcar.

Northern Trains operated “Pacer” 144009 awaits departure from Scunthorpe with the 11:17 “all stations” service to Doncaster, Sheffield and Lincoln, 12th October 2009. 144009 is an example of the final design of “Pacer” DMU with Alexander bus bodywork and BREL underframes. Twenty-three Class 144 units were built in 1987 for services in West Yorkshire. The units have a maximum speed of 75 mph. The first thirteen sets of the class (144001-013) are two car units. The remaining ten sets (144014-023) are three car units, although all were originally built as two car units, the centre vehicle being added later

Another Scunthorpe based Volvo Olympian is R161VPU. This bus was new to Stagecoach East London in August 1997 as fleet number VA61. It is currently part of the Stagecoach East Midlands, and is now numbered 16061. I took this photo on Bellingham Road in Scunthorpe, the bus was operating service 10, which is a circular route serving Ashby.

This view of Lysaughts steelworks at Normanby Park has featured elsewhere in my photostream but not with my MG YA parked in front of it. Normanby Road runs past on the left swinging to the right and passing under the railway bridge just visible below the cooling towers. This was a branch off the North Lindsey Railway and served the steelworks.
This is the country end of the complex with the ore prep plant behind. The gasometers and chimneys are those seen on the skyline in the previous shot. The two blast furnaces are wreathed in smoke in the centre distance.
I sold the car in 1977 and the steelworks closed in 1982. Nothing left of this scene today I'm afraid. The site has become another of those bland warehouse parks with the only connection being one of the internal roads called Lysaughts Way. The railway no longer serves the site of course and has been lifted.
