Cergy

I appreciate all those lovely little insects out there, living their lives happily oblivious of our activities. Yet once in awhile we can see that perhaps it is we humans that are missing all of their artistic efforts.

At sunset the birds find their perch on the wings of this statue. For the birds it is simply a safe stone watchtower, it seemed paradoxical to me that the birds perched on someone else's wings

In 343 B.C., King Philip II hired the philosopher Aristotle to tutor Alexander at the Temple of the Nymphs at Meiza. Over the course of three years, Aristotle taught Alexander poetry, drama, science, politics, the meaning of Justice & the skills of Rhetoric.

Alexander's passion for learning never decayed.

Seeing that Homer's Iliad inspired Alexander to dream of becoming a heroic warrior, Aristotle created an abridged version of the tome for Alexander to carry with him on military campaigns.

Auke de Vries (1937) is a well known artist in the Netherlands and abroad. During his lifetime he has realized many monumental commissions.

His sculptures reflect on history and the surroundings, on the flow of rivers and the remnants of industrial areas. They can be huge, but they are always airy. It's a freestyle kind of drawing in space. However, do not underestimate the total weight and the necessary equipment. The small models in his studio have to be realized in full on shipyards and the like.

I have written about his work on several stages in life. This is a recent portrait.

The State Emblem of Wyoming, the "Cowboy State", is a "Bucking Horse and Rider", and the State Sport is "Rodeo".

So, this large-scale bronze sculpture on the West lawn of the State Capitol Building is entirely appropriate. The statue and its base stand18 feet tall (5.5m), and is named by the sculptor, Ed Fraughton, "The Spirit of Wyoming".

I am fascinated with the grace and balance of this work ...

It is impressive how the ocean can transform a smooth piece of driftwood into a sculpture created by nature. Every square inch of the carved surface was as individual as a fingerprint. "In every outthrust headland, in every curving beach, in every grain of sand there is the story of the earth."

Rachel Carson

This wooden cabin was originally built in 1942 by Aage Madsen.

It was used as a studio for resident sculptors at the Guild of All Arts. It was well-used but fell into disrepair, closed in the 1980s, then left unused for decades. It was restored and completed in 2019.

Encompass, by local sculptor Michael Speller, was inspired by the support given to beneficiaries by the Greenwich Hospital. The interwoven figures, conjure up sailors climbing the rigging of a tall ship, culminate in a domed roof that reference the famous twin domes of Sir Christopher Wren's Royal Naval College.

The piece incorporates "found objects' from the Thames, tools and objects used by craft workers in the market, films set on location in the area here and words, donated by local school children, that are associated with Greenwich. Both objects and text have been impressed upon the figures thereby giving some degree of uniformity to the sculpture.

I cross this ephemeral creek to access a favorite vista on Big Pinto Mesa (on the left). The creek is usually dry, but it is scoured and rinsed down to bedrock, indicating that occasionally the water flows forcefully.

This innocent trickling creek (on this day) has cleft a mesa, forming Cottonwood Canyon as it plunges over 2,000 feet in 7 miles to the Dolores River.

The works of sculptor Jo Hess are found throughout the U.S. in sculpture parks, gardens, airports and private homes.

Although she completed many commissions in the form of busts and life-size portrait sculptures, her personal favorite pieces were those which represented the beauty and grace she saw in her home town of Mobile, Alabama.

This sculpture is titled ‘Flora’. It is a life-size figure of a young woman kneeling in her garden. Editions of ‘Flora’ are found in several sculpture parks throughout the U.S., as well as in museum gardens and in private collections. It is Jo Hess’ signature piece.

Andy Scott's beautiful mermaid and guardian overlooking the M80 motorway at Cumbernauld close to Glasgow.

Arria has the form of a female figure, with two large swooping arcs from the upraised palms of her hands to the hem of her dress. The idea of the arcs comes from the Gaelic name for Cumbernauld, “comar nan allt”, which translates as “the meeting of the waters”.

her name comes from the mother, Arria Fadilla, of Roman emperor Antoninus who was responsible for building the nearby Antonine Wall across Scotland so has historical connections with the area.

Andy Scott is a celebrated Scottish artist also known for amazing artworks such as The Kelpies at the Helix, Heavy Horse on the M8 motorway, Rise in Glasgow and Lomondgate Stag.

Christ the Redeemer (Portuguese: Cristo Redentor, standard Brazilian Portuguese: is an Art Deco statue of Jesus Christ in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, created by French sculptor Paul Landowski and built by the Brazilian engineer Heitor da Silva Costa, in collaboration with the French engineer Albert Caquot. Romanian sculptor Gheorghe Leonida fashioned the face. The statue is 30 metres (98 ft) tall, excluding its 8-metre (26 ft) pedestal, and its arms stretch 28 metres (92 ft) wide.[1][2]

The statue weighs 635 metric tons (625 long, 700 short tons), and is located at the peak of the 700-metre (2,300 ft) Corcovado mountain in the Tijuca Forest National Park overlooking the city of Rio. A symbol of Christianity across the world, the statue has also become a cultural icon of both Rio de Janeiro and Brazil, and is listed as one of the New Seven Wonders of the World.[3] It is made of reinforced concrete and soapstone, and was constructed between 1922 and 1931.

The Palace of Westminster serves as the meeting place for both the House of Commons and the House of Lords, the two houses of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. Informally known as the Houses of Parliament, the Palace lies on the north bank of the River Thames in the City of Westminster, in central London, England.

Its name, which derives from the neighboring Westminster Abbey, may refer to several historic structures but most often: the Old Palace, a medieval building-complex largely destroyed by fire in 1834, or its replacement, the New Palace that stands today. The palace is owned by the Crown. Committees appointed by both houses manage the building and report to the Speaker of the House of Commons and to the Lord Speaker.

Richard Coeur de Lion is a Grade II listed equestrian statue of the 12th-century English monarch Richard I, also known as Richard the Lionheart, who reigned from 1189 to 1199. It stands on a granite pedestal in Old Palace Yard outside the Palace of Westminster in London, facing south towards the entrance to the House of Lords. It was created by Baron Carlo Marochetti, an Italian sculptor whose works were popular with European royalty and the nobility, though often less well regarded by critics and the artistic establishment. The statue was first produced in clay and displayed at The Great Exhibition in 1851, where it was located outside the west entrance to the Crystal Palace. It was well received at the time and two years later Queen Victoria and Prince Albert headed a list of illustrious subscribers to a fund that aimed to raise money for the casting of the statue in bronze.

Near Graupa, where Richard Wagner lived while working on the opera Lohengrin, the Liebethaler Grund is home to the largest Richard Wagner monument in the world, a place of pilgrimage for many Wagnerians.

The monument depicts Wagner as a Knight of the Grail. At his feet are five figures that embody the elements of his music: the spherical, the lyrical, the dramatic, the Dionysian and the demonic. The bronze figures are over four meters high, and together with the sandstone base, the monument is 12.5 m high.

The monument was designed in 1911/12 by the sculptor and painter Richard Guhr. He was a professor of monumental art at the Dresden Academy and a passionate Wagnerian. The monument was originally intended to be erected in the Great Garden in Dresden, but the outbreak of the First World War and the economic crisis caused it to be forgotten.

Wagner friends rediscovered the monument in the 1930s and had it erected at its current location on the Wesenitz. The Staude family, then owners of the Lochmühle in Liebethaler Grund, where Wagner wrote parts of his operas Lohengrin and Tannhäuser in 1846, made the property available free of charge, and Richard Guhr financed the construction of the monument and the sandstone base. The monument was unveiled on May 21, 1933, the 50th anniversary of Wagner's death, making it the first Wagner monument in Saxony.

A bronze statue by Avard Fairbanks commemorates the deaths of hundreds of Saints during the first two years in the pioneer community of Winter Quarters.

Avard Tennyson Fairbanks (March 2, 1897 – January 1, 1987) was a prolific 20th-century American sculptor. Three of his sculptures are in the United States Capitol,[1] and the state capitols in both Utah and Wyoming, as well as numerous other locations, also have his works. Possibly his most well-known artistic contribution was designing the ram symbol for Dodge

One of the most famous monuments in Warsaw, standing on The Old Town Marker Square :)

The Warsaw Mermaid - statue on Old Town Market square in Warsaw. It was the first monument of the Warsaw coat of arms and had an influence on the later images of the Warsaw Mermaid and popularized her figure among the inhabitants and visitors of the city. The mermaid appears in several Warsaw legends. All of them assigned her the role of the patron and protector of the city. The sculpture in Warsaw's Old Town Square was designed by Varsovian sculptor Konstanty Hegel. Originally (1855–1928) and now (since 2000) it stands in the marketplace. At other times, it was moved to different places in Warsaw. In 2008, the original sculpture made of bronzed zinc was taken from the market for maintenance work. The sculpture was in a very poor condition due to mechanical damage and numerous acts of vandalism. The repaired original was transferred to the Museum of Warsaw, and replaced with a copy of made by the Jacek Guzera foundry in Dąbrowie near Kielce.

Wszystkie wyznaczają jej rolę patronki i opiekunki miasta. Kielc.

The Sculptor Galaxy (NGC 253), also know as the Silver Coin Galaxy, belongs to a group of galaxies which is one of the closest to ours. At a distance of approx. 11 million light years, and a length of nearly 70,000 light years, it occupies a swath of sky about the diameter of the full moon.

Also seen in this image is the globular cluster NGC 288. At an age of more that 10.5 billions years, it likely formed a few billion years after the Milky Way.
