SCT014-SCT004 cruise through Altona North towards Laverton, on the last leg of their trip from Brisbane as SCT Intermodal 5BM9.
SCT002 and SCT011 pass over Menangle Bridge with 3MB9 on a spotless afternoon. Not even 30 minutes earlier the sky was full of puffy clouds.

Through my 10" Meade SCT, 32mm eyepiece coupled to a Nikon D7000. No Moon filter, but an Orion Skyglow is on the OTA.
Sydney Rail Services over the weekend operated a hook-and-pull trip from Sydney to Parkes and Return in lieu of 1899/8198 trains using EL64 and EL57. I caught up with the return journey tonight at Glenfield running as 8192 through to Leightonfield.

In Denmark, the solstitial celebration is called Sankt Hans aften ("St. John's Eve"). It was an official holiday until 1770, and in accordance with the Danish tradition of celebrating a holiday on the evening before the actual day, it takes place on the evening of 23 June. It is the day where the medieval wise men and women (the doctors of that time) would gather special herbs that they needed for the rest of the year to cure people.
It has been celebrated since the times of the Vikings, by visiting healing water wells and making a large bonfire to ward away evil spirits. Today the water well tradition is gone. Bonfires on the beach, speeches, picnics and songs are traditional, although bonfires are built in many other places where beaches may not be close by (i.e. on the shores of lakes and other waterways, parks, etc.). In the 1920s a tradition of putting a witch made of straw and cloth on the bonfire emerged as a remembrance of the church's witchburnings from 1540 to 1693 (but unofficially a witch was lynched as late as 1897). This burning sends the witch to Bloksbjerg, the mountain 'Brocken' in the Harz region of Germany where the great witch gathering was thought to be held on this day.
Holger Drachmann and P.E. Lange-Müller wrote a beautiful midsommervise (Midsummer hymn) in 1885 called "Vi elsker vort land..." ("We Love Our Land") that is sung at every bonfire on this evening
After a week break with a heap of rain, this weak break in the cloud, opened up nearby for a few minutes and 6BM9 came through Glenfield with CF4403 and SCT008 leading.

GL102 & CF4429 curve into Cressy with 3AM9 SCT Intermodal. Both locos are hired power to supplement the holiday period rush. Surprised the GL made it all the way on this run without self-imploding. 17/12/2025

SCT's 7PG1 with SCT006-CSR021 and 43 platforms glows the morning desert sun as it rolls through the spectacular Wirrappa landscape on Sept 4, 2023. The train is crossing over the rebuilt right of way badly damaged by severe storms and flooding. The train was once known as "The Great White" due to its predominantly white locomotives and rolling stock. These days, it's almost "The Great Grey" with the effects of a new grey colour scheme plus the ravages of graffiti and desert dust.

With works for the electrification of the Gawler line well and truly underway, the stretch of track between Mawson Lakes and Salisbury is forever-changed from a photographer's perspective.
SCT Logistics 6MP9 Intermodal rolls through Parafield Gardens with CSR010/CSR001/SCT008/SCT006 at the helm on the 20th of March 2021. The train is bound for Penfield, where it will then continue to Western Australia.

CSR010 & CSR021 slug upgrade with 4MB9 SCT Intermodal. The loading on the head end is Aurizon loading. SCT is hauling Aurizon's Brisbane bound loads for the foreseeable future with Aurizon's own BM/MB services being truncated to originate and end in Sydney respectively. 12/11/2025
SCT012 and SCT002 head North through Broadford working as 4MB9 to Brisbane.
In lieu is also VL362, VL359 and VL354 which were being transferred dead to Barnawartha before heading light engine to Goulburn following their dehire from SCT Logistics.

In the early stages of SCT starting its east coast operations loading was relatively light on and trains worked by SCT class locos as typified here with SCT001,SCT008 working a BM9 service through Jindalee on 10-2-2017.
In the later half of the year , loadings had picked up and the CSR locos now run the east coast while the SCT locos once again dominated over the Trans Australia line
