This image was taken during a wildlife shoot back in September, where we were lucky enough to have a number of Jays dropping in. They included this rather dishevelled looking individual, which, for the most part I ignored, preferring to photograph the tidier looking birds. My good friend who joined me on the trip had other ideas though, saying that this one was far more characterful & interesting. Looking back, I'm now inclined to agree with her, so this one's for Gladys :-)
Scruffy was born in my house about one and a half years ago. He is a natural big boy. He has about the largest set of paws I have ever seen on a domesticated cat. I am thankful to report, he is very gentle with me:)
She got tired of posing and fell asleep on me (not really) but she did drift off. You'll see she has a new scar on the side of her face she continues to take on most bears to protect her fishing area. The scar could have been from Scruffy she was at the top of her game this year and not taking orders from Georgina. It was a cub bearing year for Scruff but no sign of a cub, I do believe she may be beyond her cub years.
It took many attempts to get Georgina sharp at 1/13 of a second. I used my 300mm f/4 PF VR, ISO 64 at f/8. More environment and less bear different for me but after years of photographing her, it was time to try something new.
Gave him a bath and dried him off a little and let him go outside to dry off after I brushed him. That lasted 5 mins before he started to dig in the dirt.
There is a patch of grass in our backyard where every dog we have had in the last 38yrs, will go and dig. Always the same spot. One Summer, I dug up the area and put in different dirt etc.. In no time they were back digging there. They don't dig anywhere else.
who is in desperate need of a grooming...
I've had this lens forever and tried to trade it in at one time.... they said it's worth nothing.... but it looks like it still works and glad I kept it!
Sequence of 3 he passed away today in 2014 we had good times together. Our present dog looks a lot like him.
Lads studying in Brighton have just formed a band. As a favour I had great fun doing a photo shoot with them. No I can’t wait to hear some of their music!
I don't know where this Jackdaw had been or what it had been doing but it did look distinctly scruffy. Along with the usual seabirds at Bempton there are also good views of various pigeons and Jackdaws seen gliding along the tops of the cliffs.
Detail of an old crumbling farnhouse.
Shot 1976 in Alsace, France, in a small village called Beinheim, near the border to Germany.
I called her cub Angel before I discovered the cub was a male. Only a few feet from Mom's side angel could be the most obedient cub I have ever witnessed. The chances of survival are much higher with cubs that stay close to their Mothers. Scruffy like other Black Bear Mother's will fight to the death to save her cub, that is why you never want to get between them. I have watched Scruffy take on Trump and Brutus, they want no part of her.
What a delight to see Scruffy still enjoying life at Harewood.
Instantly recognisable by his deformed tail he was always a familiar character.
