I was stuck for a photograph today until I spotted this in a cabinet. It is one of Rowan's "works of art"- as she calls them. She does not usually do abstracts- she is more of a figurative girl at the moment. She also dabbles in installations. I think that I need to take her to more galleries- she might be the next Tracey Emin.
Scribbly gum (Eucalyptus haemastoma) is an Australian eucalypt that is named after the 'scribbles' on its bark. These zigzag tracks are tunnels made by the larvae of the Scribbly Gum Moth (Ogmograptis scribula) and follow the insect's life cycle. Eggs are laid between layers of old and new bark.(Wikipedia)
This piece just came home from the Faculty Exhibition at the Maryland Institute, College of Art. I am teaching a class there this term and received my MFA there in 1986.
