The 4th Floor of the Chattanooga Public Library presents Zines & Screens, monthly back-to-back workshops on the last Saturday of the month to keep your creative juices flowing.
12pm-1:30pm
SCREEN PRINTING
This laid back screen printing workshop is for adults who would like to come play with squeegees, silk screens, ink and brushes. Bring in something to screen (a shirt, table cloth, pillow case, scarf, party invitations, whatever!) and create a stencil, screen and some sweet new artwork on the 4th Floor.
2pm-4pm
ZINE MAKING
We'll work with members of the Society of Ink and Paper to learn about indy publishing and zines, while creating some simple zines using available materials in the library's zine making lab.

These contain video of Nobunny's Cramps tribute shows in Oakland. One show got cut short so the party moved to another venue for a full set performance.
You can see a clip of it here:

My original print simply called "Seaweed" now offered in deep lemongrass which is an interesting shade of yellowish green.
I love to snorkel at the mouth of the Narrow River and there is always copious amounts of seaweed to draw on for inspiration. From sketches I create a textile print and burn large screens to print the entire tote at once. Each has small print of seaweed on the inside facing and identification as a Willywaw Handprint on the bottom. I do not print yard goods so each tote and pattern is unique to the size and shape of the bag.
This is silkscreened on pre-shrunk 100% organic cotton canvas that is grown and milled in the United States. I use permanent, water based textile inks that have low toxicity, a wonderful hand and transparent colors.
Straps are made from 1 inch hemp webbing, which is quite durable, and tote measures approximately 16" wide x 9" high x 5" deep. Straps are 24 inches long, over the shoulder length. French seams, no exposed edges.
Thank you for looking!
Neversleeping is Ben Chlapek, a freelance illustrator/designer/printer living in Missouri.
He designs delightful gug posters. Rooftops here, was a design for a Handsome Furs gig.
House in snow is a super-cool, super minimal two color screenprint, 19" x 25" on french "starch rain" 80 lb. paper.
The white is pretty subtle, and the windows are colored orange with colored pencil.
We had a day of screenprinting in this room full of racks and pipes and machines with levers and jars full of magic!
I'm also testing out my new scanner (well, new to me... thank you uncle ebay!)
The first two layers weren't "registered" with anything more than blue masking tape in a rectangle slightly larger than the paper's trim size (the pieces of paper varied a little since they were hand-cut). For the final layer though it was critical that it be registered to at least the blue layer, so I employed the transparency that I used to burn the screen to flip back and forth over the prints (adding extra time and hassle to the printing process, but worth it...I "winged" a couple with no registration and they were a disaster!).
Tim Gough and I are collaborating on a silkscreen - this is Tim cutting the first layer from amberlith. We made a drawing first to use as a guide so we weren't cutting blindly.
This guy Geoff offered to screenprint/stencil a few shirts for my with my moniker. They came out AWESOME, as you can see.
The old deck about to be changed out with the new.
