Here is Tofu relaxing on his scratchpost next to the window (and right above the radiator which works again, hooray !). The moose on the windowsill is something I recently found at the Christmas market of a local garden centre and couldn't resist. What can I say, I love quirky things. :)

The theme of the Happy Caturday group for this week is "light". Tofu likes the lights but I think he feels stalked by the Tomte who usually sits on the windowsill next to Tofu's favourite scratchpost and moved to the floor for this photo. :) Happy Caturday everybody !

Just like his sister Cleo the Dragon hates cold weather and at this time of year prefers to stay somewhere near a radiator instead of going outside. This is why the radiator under one of the living room windows qualifies this scratchpost as a favourite place for a nap and by now the Dragon has even learned to leave most of the items on the windowsill in peace. The only exception is the little Santa in the background which is rather new and therefore interesting and ends up on the ground several times a day. The lights in the background aren't really Christmas lights as in fact they stay on the ficus tree all year. :)

Large parts of our state are expecting rather heavy snowfalls today - except the area where we are living. It's likely that all we'll get is rain and sleet again. It was already raining when I took this photo but the boys (and I) remained dry because their scratchpost is under the roof. Linus seems to feel better, he jumped on the scratchpost without help, which is something he wouldn't have done yesterday. Fynn is still quite nice although he too seems to think that Linus is better and doesn't treat him with kid gloves anymore.

Leo watched his brother Charlie who was climbing onto Tofu's outdoor scratchpost. For once he didn't even look grumpy as he was distracted and didn't pay attention to the camera. :)

The weather is pretty dreadful again today. My Dragon spent most of the day on his scratchpost next to the window in my study from where he could watch me working while the rain was beating against the window. The lights of the candle arch stayed illuminated all day because it was so dark.

Birdwatching is exhausting and in the afternoon Tofu usually takes a long nap. The place he chooses for his naps depends on where I am. During the week when I work, he often sleeps somewhere in my study where he has a scratchpost and several blankets like this blue one.

Taken on a quite typical summer evening. Linus was longing on his outdoor scratchpost and waiting for the temperatures to finally cool down. His activity level during the day is close to zero when it's hot but he enjoys the nights although the fact that THE BIRDS sleep during the night is kind of disappointing. Mice would be more entertaining if they could fly.

No, I wouldn't ! He was after the leaves of the ginkgo tree behind his scratchpost because he thinks that it's time for them to fall now and he offers a little bit of "help". Linus knows exactly that I want the leaves to stay ON the tree as long as possible and he tries to make sure that I don't see him at work.

Luckily Charlie got his ears back quickly. Not that he really needs them for hearing or - God forbid ! - listening to the human but he looks definitely better with ears !

It has been a busy day and I had no time to take new phtots of my cats. Therefore I post one of the photos I took last week when my niece's cats stayed with us. This is Leo on one of the scratch posts. He looks pretty confident and even quite relaxed here which shows that toward the end of their stay he had finally gotten used to the fact that he was away from home.

The scratch post on the terrace is under the roof of the house and usually stays dry. It is therefore considered as a kind of safe haven by the Dragon when elsewhere in the garden he would risk being hit by snowflakes. :)

Yes, that basket is too small for Fynnie or Fynnie is too big for the basket but it's his favourite place for taking a nap at the moment. I hasten to add that we have much more comfortable cat beds but apparently they don't appeal to Fynn. Originally I wanted to take a photo of him sleeping but Fynn was distracted by Tofu who was about to fall off the scratchpost.

Fynn wasn't as happy about the snow as Linus. It's too cold for his taste and he prefers chasing butterflies to chasing snowballs. He mostly watched the winter wonderland from his outdoor scratchpost and provided Linus with good advice from there. Today most of the snow has disappeared. There are only a few patches left in the garden and you can't call it a winter wonderland anymore.

It has been windy, rainy and dark all day again today. Only Fynn stays out longer than a few minutes in this kind of weather. He was sensible enough to stay more or less dry which is rather unusual. Most of the time he sat on his scratchpost on the terrace and watched the world go by. There aren't many interesting things going on in the neighbouring gardens at this time of year, though, apart from the fact that the neighbour has installed a birdfeeder on his balcony. Linus has an eye on the feeder from the kitchen window and only goes out when the birds start to queue on the net which surrounds our terrace.

It was early evening and only minutes before my niece arrived to pick Charlie up and take him back home, when a beautiful rainbow appeared in the sky while Charlie sat on the scratch post on the terrace. I haven't seen many rainbows in the last few years and I'm very happy that this one appeared at the right time to allow me to take this photo of our little guest. It was a perfect end to our 10 days with Charlie Brown.

Sethi came by today and stayed most of the day because the weather outside was ugly. He first sat on Tofu's scratch post on the roof terrace from where the cats have a nice view over the surrounding gardens and (most importantly) the bird feeders. Then he returned inside, ate Tofu's food and went to sleep in one of Tofu's beds. :)

The shrub behind Sethi in this photo is a Burkwood Viburnum and you can see that it already has several buds. It will flower around Easter which is the reason why in German it is commonly called "Easter Snowball".

Linus loves the tree stump on the terrace although he has somewhat outgrown it. I found this tree stump in the forest years ago after a storm when the forestry workers were clearing the paths from the debris. When I asked if I could have the tree stump they said "sure, no problem" and even brought it to my car for me. Ever since it has been used by the cats as a scratchpost. It has the perfect size for Fynn, even Cleo still fits on it if she bothers to climb onto it, but it's really a bit small for Linus who has grown into a giant. I honestly doubt that I will ever find a tree stump which meets Linus' requirements.

Day 4 with Charlie Brown. In the meantime he has discovered the possibilities of the scratch post on the terrace. He climbs up there like a monkey, but getting down again is a different story and his technique leaves room for improvement. The scratch post offers a lovely and exciting view over the neighbouring gardens and (most important) the activities of THE BIRDS !

I took this photo of Tofu this morning. It was snowing outside and he watched the falling snowflakes from his scratchpost. He looked very peaceful in the warm light of candle arch.

The feeder dangling from the gutter is filled with peanuts but it is only occasionally visited by birds. Maybe a feeder is slightly less attractive to birds if it is heavily guarded by a cat. :)

This is a photo I took this afternoon when I was working in my study and the Dragon was resting on a scratchpost behind me. That scratchpost is standing next to the window and is partially covered by the curtain under which the Dragon loves to hide when he takes a nap.

We had some sunshine yesterday and Linus spent time outdoors. Linus is a funny character, even when he is just chilling out. He has a special way to relax on his scratchpost, upside down and with the tail dangling on the other side. It even looks quite comfortable when he does this and he can stay like this for ages. Afterwards he seems to feel refreshed and comes up with is most creative ideas. Maybe I should try it too, my creativity desperately needs a jumpstart.

It was late afternoon and Linus was sitting on his outdoor scratchpost on the terrace and waiting for the THE BIRDS who are usually quite active shortly before sunset. At the moment I really wish he would watch birds more often. As Fynn is sick and not very willing to play and I spend most of my time taking care of Fynn, Linus feels neglected. That leads to a behaviour which is very exhausting (not for Linus but for me). He is very "creative" when it comes to getting my attention and the innocent facade is definitely an illusion.

No fog today for a change and warmer temperatures. Linus was happy to be allowed to go out again and look for BIRDS. The birds didn't want to play with him, though, and while waiting for a volunteer he entertained himself with a string on his outdoor scratchpost.

A quick snapshot of the Dragon taken when I was working and he was resting on a scratchpost nearby. Autumn and Mondays clearly wear him out ! The blue sky outside our window only lasted a few minutes, not really long enough to convince the Dragon to interrupt his power nap.

I post this photo for the Happy Caturday group theme "Cat Tails" and a tail is about all you see in this photo. The capture was taken more or less accidentally because Tofu didn't want to pose for photos. It was a lovely sunny day and he had better things to do. If you enlarge the photo you may notice a pine needle in his tail. This tail tends to collect all kinds of things.

Today it is cold, the garden is covered in snow and no cat has shown the slightest intention to go outside. I add another capture of Tofu's tail in the comments, taken when he was sleeping on his scratchpost. Happy Caturday !

... when I didn't have to share my bed with a reindeer !

No need to feel sorry for Tofu, Reindeer Rudi only paid a short visit and Tofu soon had his bed all to himself again. :)

The reindeer is called Rudi and it's an old friend of Linus although he seemed to be quite surprised to find Rudi on his scratchpost. Despite his expression Linus likes Rudi and often even takes him to his bed to sleep next to him during the night.

I took this photo a few days ago when we had some rare moments of sunshine. Now we are back to cloudy skies and (wet) snow.

Linus was outdoors on his scratchpost, watching THE BIRDS and waiting for the human to calm down after he had thrown her lunch on the floor because he had been in a hurry. He didn't feel particularly guilty as he had had important things to do and the lunch was just collateral damage. And you can eat your lunch just as well from the floor as from a plate, right ? No thanks, I made a new lunch and then l checked what the furry walking disaster was doing in the garden. That's how he greeted me when I came out on the terrace. It's difficult to stay angry in such situations.

I think Charlie Brown is a remarkably photogenic cat for many reasons, one of them being his amazing eyes, especially when they are literally glowing in the sunshine. He sat on the scratchpost on the terrace when I took this photo and watched the antics of his little brother Leo. Charlie is calmer and less active now than he was in summer when he stayed with us for 10 days. Well, maybe he just seems to be much calmer as Leo is such a bundle of energy. :)

I'm glad to report that everybody here arrived safely in the new year although Fynn still can't quite believe that it's already 2019. Fynn fell asleep on his scratchpost last night during the fireworks, so I think you can say that he wasn't bothered at all. :) Even the Dragon stayed quite calm, only Cleo hid somewhere in the basement.

I started the new year with a morning walk in rain and wind over muddy fields to the pasture of the Scottish Highland cattle, only to realise that it was impossible to take photos because I couldn't get as close to them as I would have wanted and on top of that it was much too dark. So I returned home, set up my softbox and took a few photos of Fynn who spent most of the first day of the year under a blanket on the rocking chair. We all know that cats are smarter than humans.

Since we have a new addition to our family, and said addition is a feline, and since felines need something to sharpen their nails-claws (-and preferably should not use the carpet), I aquired this cute scratchpost.

Guess who doesn’t look at it at all? And guess how our sisal carpet looks now? 😳

Happy SoS

After lunch Sethi hides in his den to take a nap. The den is part of a bigger scratch post and in fact the only part he actually uses. He wasn't super pleased when I showed up with the camera but allowed me to take a quick photo before he turned round to tell me that the photoshoot was over. :)

Pixie spends most of her time flat out near her scratchpost . She can't wait to dash down the garden again when the temperature rises above freezing !

I took this photo of Charlie when he and Leo stayed with me for several days in April. He sat on the scratchpost on my roof terrace and looked down on his cousin Tofu. Charlie and Leo will return for another visit tomorrow evening as my niece gets a new kitchen and thinks that the noise and chaos would drive the cats crazy.

Leo and his big brother Charlie are back for another week as their family is on holiday. The weather isn't great these days, we have had lots of rain, but it's supposed to get better next week and I hope to be able to take some photos of them. Today Leo suprisingly has turned out to be the far more willing photo model of the two. :)

Charlie likes to climb onto the scratchpost on my roof terrace and enjoy the view over the town. Although he and his family live next door now it's a view he can't enjoy on their own balcony as they live on the first floor and my roof terrace is on the third.

This scratchpost is outdoors on the roof terrace. Tofu rarely uses it, Sethi sits on it occasionally and enjoys the view but it turns out that our visitor Leo loves it. He is quite a good climber. :)

I would so love to post a photo of Fynn again but be isn't willing. Yesterday I tried to take some shots of him in the garden with the result that he left and only returned after several hours. This morning I put him on the new scratch post on the terrace and even used treats to convince him to stay there but he ignored the treats and disappeared. Guess who climbed on the scratch post and shouted "No problem, take me instead !". So it's Linus again, my only reliable photo model these days, although Cleo occasionally has a good moment too.

Henry was sitting on the scratchpost when he decided to snatch my i-phone !

They say everyone has an angle, and my kitten, Freja certainly does! She is smaller than her twin brother, Ragnar, but Freja has a really long body, and can contort it into the most unusual shapes, like this complete right angle she's managed to pull off with her spine!

Linus isn't a very willing photo model these days (whereas I could post dozens of Fynn) and I only managed a few quick snapshots when he was on his scratchpost. The white wall isn't really the best background for Linus but at least I could add the googly eyed planter with the cat grass from some additional colour. The planter looks worried for good reason as the cats are quite fond of grass at the moment and soon there won't be much left of his "hair". :)

I have to think there's a cat (or cats) somewhere that had waaay too much fun with this. Hopefully they have a nice new one to start shredding :-)

More playing with Hermes on the scratching post.
