Everyone left the table.....

BENNY:

Pfff... everyone's gone...

(Benny crawls out from under the table and sees the two chocolate hearts.)

How lucky... they are still here! One for me and one for Jago.

MARY:

Benny!

What are you doing under the table?

I thought you were going to visit Jago.

BENNY:

Oh...eh..Hello Marty....eh...Mary

Well...uh...I was cleaning the floor.

Some food scraps fell under the table.

You know that Peter often messes with food (winks at Mary).

MARY:

How nice of you Benny. So if you want to do the dishes too, I'll show HM Queen Lilibet the garden with Mummy Marian.

BENNY:

Of course I want to do that for you!

Benny talking to himself: I hate dishwashing.

Scraps sometimes tease us with both memories and promise. There are those that don't see them as second best...

Aboutme

This is one of numerous public grill spots on the Azores. Stray cats hang out there to feed on scraps which seem to have been left for them in bowls in the bottom part of the grill.

A few that went in the recycling bin!

The squirrels bring walnuts to the top of this stump to eat them. There is a large pile of skins and shells. A few colorful leaves fell on top, so I went out to shoot the table of scraps. To me, the half walnut shell on its side looked like a skull. Low and behold, when I brought the image up large on my computer screen, that's exactly what it was!!!

Happy Halloween Everybody!

Scrapbooking was a popular pastime in Victorian times for both children and adults. Creating a scrapbook was not only a craft project, it was also a way of preserving memories.

In the 1800s, the automated printing press was invented. Suddenly books and printed material became much more widely available. As well as writing in their commonplace books, people began to cut out and stick in printed items. Things like greeting cards, calling cards, postcards, prayer cards, advertising trading cards and newspaper clippings were collected. Some of these books contained a mix of personal journal entries, hand-drawn sketches and watercolours, along with various scraps of printed material. These books were literally books of scraps.

By the 1820s, collectable scraps had become more elaborate. Some items were embossed: a process by which a die (a metal stamp for cutting or pressing) was punched into the reverse side of the paper, giving the front a raised three-dimensional appearance.

In 1837, the first year of Queen Victoria's reign, the colour printing process known as chromolithography was invented. This lead to the production of ‘ready made’ scraps. Brightly coloured and embossed scraps were sold in sheets with the relief stamped out to the approximate shape of the image. These pre-cut scraps were connected by small strips of paper to keep them in place. The laborious task of cutting out small pictures was thus removed, and sales of scraps went soaring. Many of the best-quality scraps of the period were produced in Germany, where bakers and confectioners used small reliefs to decorate cakes and biscuits for special occasions such as christenings, weddings, Christmas and Easter.

These embossed chromolithograph scraps are of German and British in origin and date from the 1880s.

The circus themed cards with their gilding are part of a set of eight which are French (although unmarked) and date from the 1870s.

Luna is the youngest of the five alpacas and can be timid around the grain bowl, often getting boxed out by the others. She ends up cleaning the bowl and picking the fallen pellets off the ground. I try to give her handfuls on the side while the others are busy, though.

is the goodest boy.

I managed to capture this Fox just at the moment he stuck his tongue out though I think he was licking his lips. Foxes are found throughout Britain and Ireland. In fact they are found pretty much throughout the Northern Hemisphere. British Foxes were once thought to be a different subspecies (crucigera) with smaller, more widely separated teeth. But further work has shown that dentition varies and it is highly doubtful whether British Foxes are sufficiently different to merit being called a subspecies. Though Foxes from even warmer parts of Europe seem to develop longer coats compared with British Foxes. They are highly adaptable and can occur in many different habitats feeding on a wide variety of food especially rabbits, voles, birds, beetles, worms and fruit. Foxes living in urban areas tend to scavenge for food scraps just as they do for carrion in rural areas. But they will also take live food in urban situations. The one visiting my garden is partial to peanuts.

Foxes mate in the depths of winter when the Vixen can be heard making that familiar screaming bark. Gestation is just over 50 days and the young are fully weaned at about 10 weeks. The male usually helps provision the young with food. The cubs usually associate with their mother until autumn, when they disperse to find territories of their own.

I made this quilt using scraps left over from my string quilt. Same fabrics, different look! Blogged here.

Well, having long admired Jacqueline's beautiful grid cards, I decided to finally try using up some of my own scraps....and had a BALL! I used several stamps from Hero Arts and Impression Obsession, some paper scraps from K & Co and Kathy's lovely Etsy shop at www.etsy.com/shop/vintagecatnip, and some watercolour paper previously prepared with Adirondack distress inks (Cranberry and Lettuce). I'm a scraps hoarder at the best of times (lol), but now I won't toss the TINIEST scrap anymore.

not really happy with this one, but i freestyled it so i had no expectations
