... my finished quilt for the #scrappylogcabinqal on Instagram. Had so much fun making this! Quilting by Carrie of gotchacoveredquilting.com.

Quilt top finished! 54" x 72". Also for #scrappylogcabinqal, a quilt along on Instagram...(IG's square format cuts part of it off.) Have handed it over so @gotchacoveredquilting can work her magic on it! So excited to see it quilted!

Quilt along goes until Feb. 14. All you need to do to enter is to post at least one log cabin block of any size/type on Instagram with the hashtag above and then comment on my giveaway post. There's a different giveaway host each week. My week finishes mid-day on Saturday, Jan. 24:)

#scrappylogcabinqal swap blocks. Upper two have fussy cuts from @ayumills' darling new fabric line Lighthearted (Kokka). Also several prints by Lori Holt, aka Bee in my Bonnet.

I got some sewing in today! Nice being able to have a project that uses my scraps. Not sure where this is going, but enjoying my time making. Our 1st Friday night in weeks with no obligations....woohoo!! #scrappylogcabinQAL #scrapbustingin2015

Scrappy log cabin blocks, modern low volume, modern quiting

My goal is to finish a scrappy log cabin quilt top this month.

Look how well Lori Holt's prints play with Japanese ones!

Make even one log cabin block of any size, post on Instagram with hashtag #scrappylogcabinqal and leave ONE comment on this post in my Instagram feed to enter this week's giveaway! The winner will receive: 1) a pincushion made by me, using a pattern from @ayumills' adorable book #patchworkplease, 2) a charm pack of Kona in Snow (because who can't use one of those?), 3) a Japanese water soluble charcoal fabric marking pen, and 4) three zippers, two from Japan and one vintage (but unused) one with a cute large circular pull.

Hope you'll join the qal!

So many ways to arrange these blocks... #scrapbustingin2015

... the #scrappylogcabinqal, which includes giveaways, which begins Jan. 1? If you're on Instagram, you can read about the QAL on my feed: elnorac. If you're not on IG, you can read about it here:

My process? 1. Put on some peppy music. 2. Stack scraps in piles by color with one edge aligned on each pile. 3. Slice into strips. 4. Put strips with corresponding color. 5. Repeat!

I'm not sure exactly how many more blocks I will need, but if you call this 9 then I will need at least 3 probably 7 more! I'm hoping to get this done, as It needs to be ready to gift in June!

Chain piecing my way toward fewer scraps feels so good! This is for the #scrappylogcabinqal on Instagram.

Details on my earlier Instagram post, the one that says #scrappylogcabinQAL on the photo. I'm called elnorac there, too. Winner will be announced Saturday afternoon PST.

Thirty-eight more blocks for the #scrappylogcabinqal on Instagram!

These are for the #scrappylogcabinqal on Instagram, where I'm also elnorac.

Feel so grateful to Amy Smart, aka @diaryofaquilter! She listed good gifts for quilters in one of her December blog posts, which is where I learned about the Fons and Porter ready-to-hang design wall. I love having one!
